Liverpool host Sunderland at Anfield today, after both sides fell to England’s best during the week.
Liverpool started strong against Leicester, but were stopped in there tracks by a brace from Jamie Vardy. Sunderland played well enough to earn points against Manchester City, but an early goal put them on the wrong side of a 1-0 final score. The Black Cats have lost five of their last seven league games, and are two points deep in the relegation zone behind Norwich City.
Liverpool had a strong initial run under Jurgen Klopp, but the Reds have been consistently inconsistent in 2016. They’ve now lost three of their previous five league matches, and haven’t gone three games without a loss since October.
Christian Benteke is expected to start up front for Liverpool, who are still without Daniel Sturridge. The frustrated striker is rumored to be considering leaving the team in the summer, despite finally rejoining team activities this week. Liverpool may play cautious with their lineup today, thinking ahead to an FA Cup Replay with West Ham later in the week.
