You may be surprised to learn that tonight is the mid-season finale of Star Trek: Discovery. It feels like the season has gone by far too fast. It’s only November and we’re really not ready yet for a long hiatus. But whether you’re ready or not, the hiatus is here. Tonight’s ninth episode is the final episode before the season break.
Star Trek: Discovery will return to CBS All Access with all new episodes on Sunday, January 7, 2018. (That means it will return the next day, January 8, for international viewers who watch the show on Netflix.)
The show is currently scheduled to return at its regular time of 8:30 p.m. Eastern to CBS All Access. Meanwhile, on Netflix, the show typically premieres internationally Mondays at 8 a.m. BST/9 a.m. CET. If you’re in the U.S., you can’t watch Discovery on Netflix. (If you’re in Canada, you can watch Discovery on Bell Media’s Space Channel or the OTT streaming service CraveTV.)
Unfortunately we will have nearly two months to wait for Star Trek: Discovery to return and answer all of our questions. But the good news is that the series has been renewed for a second season, so there are a lot more storylines to explore.
The second half of the season will only have six episodes, so it will be over a lot faster than fans will want.
No more Star Trek discovery episode after today. This makes me very sad.
As we prepare for the midseason finale, fans have had a lot of theories and questions going into the midseason finale. There’s a big theory floating around about Voq (which we won’t spoil here) that could turn everything upside down. Fans are also wondering exactly what’s going on with Stamets and have some compelling ideas that could make for an intriguing story.
Meanwhile, will a reason ever be given for why the Klingons look so different in this series? Or is this just another costume change that won’t ever be explained? (It’s not the first time that’s happened with the Klingons.)
The storyline between Michael and Sarek has been great to watch; it’s nice to see Sarek’s “softer” side. Although the producers have said we won’t have cameos from any major characters, like Spock, we’d still love to see Michael and Spock’s relationship explored a bit more in-depth. They must really dislike each other, for Spock to never have mentioned Michael once.
Meanwhile, Lorca makes for one really fascinating captain. He’s not afraid to bend the rules or absolutely break them in order to win the war. But we’re still wondering if he purposefully sent the Admiral into the Klingon negotiations, knowing what would happen to her, so he could save his own career. Or did he truly think she was the best one for the job, and saving his position on Discovery was just a welcome coincidence to her kidnapping?
This series is definitely not disappointing, and we can’t wait to see what the producers have in mind next.
