Katharina Boehm stood out among golfers’ girlfriends for a few reasons.

One is that she was dating Sergio Garcia, whose re-emergence as an elite player in 2014 was one of the biggest storylines in golf. Garcia placed T6 at the Open Championship 2015, four strokes back from the winner. Three years later, that comeback culminated in a victory at the 2017 Masters.

However, the biggest thing that makes her different from every other wife or girlfriend is her status as a former college golf star who once caddied for her boyfriend — and helped him win a tournament in the process.

Here’s what you need to know about her:

1. She Caddied for Garcia in Thailand & Helped Him Win the Tournament

Garcia’s revolving door of caddies took a fascinating turn in December 2013, when he put the German-born Boehm in charge of his bag at the Thailand Championship.

The results couldn’t have been better. Garcia finished the tournament at 22-under par and beat Henrik Stenson by four strokes for his first win of the year.

Golf Digest notes that Garcia gushed about Boehm to reporters after the third round.

It’s great to have her around, forget about having her on the bag this week. Just a very positive person, a lot of good energy, that’s what I love about her, and it’s great to be able to go through this with her.

When he switched back to Neil Wallace as his caddy, Garcia joked to reporters that Boehm fired him.

“I wanted to keep going, but she fired me,” Garcia said, according to the Back 9 Network. “It was something she wanted to do since we started dating, and I thought that would be a good week, being the end of the year and maybe a little bit more relaxed.”

2. She’s One of the Best Golfers Ever to Play at the College of Charleston

Boehm was a standout golfer at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where she graduated in 2013 as a double major in communication and business administration.

She played in every event for four years, and her 77.03 stroke average is the seventh best in school history.

Cougars coach Jamie Futrell told Heavy that Boehm is one of his favorite players of all time.

“Kathy would be the first to tell you she was not the longest hitter in college, but she was one of the best putters I have ever coached,” Futrell said.

Futrell said Boehm has a “can-do attitude in everything she does.”

“She is successful because of her belief in herself,” he said. “She was one of the hardest workers I have ever coached. While many athletes today feel entitled, Kathy has always been very appreciative for everything she has been given.”

Boehm, who grew up in Munich, was one of the best young golfers in Germany prior to her arrival in Charleston.

According to her College of Charleston bio, she was a member of the German national junior team who built an impressive resume in national competitions, finishing second at the German Girls Championship and seventh at the German International Amateur Championship in 2008.

Boehm also finished 24th at the 2008 European Ladies Championship and was the Bavarian Junior Girls champion in 2006.

4. She’s a Huge Soccer Fan

Boehm’s Twitter feed is full of soccer-related tweets, and with that in mind, it would have been hard for Boehm to have had a better summer in 2014.

Boehm’s native Germany won its first World Cup in 24 years. Garcia’s native Spain, meanwhile, was eliminated in humiliating fashion in group play just four years after winning the Cup.

5. She Wears a Diamond Ring, but the Couple Hasn’t Announced an Engagement

The New York Times profiled Garcia and Boehm prior to the 2014 Bridgestone Invitational and noted a stark contrast between the love lives of Garcia andRory McIlroy, who ended up coming from behind to beat Garcia by two strokes and take home the title:

Their final-round pairing will offer a juxtaposition: McIlroy, 25, has played better since breaking off his engagement with the tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, and García, 34, has picked up his play since Boehm started wearing a diamond on her left ring finger. Are they engaged? “I think that’s between Kathy and myself,” García said. “If we get married or something, I’m sure everybody will find out.”
