Sorry, Garfield, the real life version has bumped you out of the box office. Grumpy Cat, the perpetually frowning feline that became a meme sensation is now getting a movie – cue the eye roll. Is it really that surprising, though? The cat has millions of YouTube views, t-shirts, holiday cards, and 900,000 Facebook followers.

I was under the impression that this would be the FIRST time a internet meme was getting the big screen Hollywood treatment, but time-traveling Rome Sweet Rome from Reddit was optioned for a movie just a few years ago.
Co-stars haven’t been penned down yet, but there’s rumors that Will Ferrell and Jack Black are in talks. Broken Road’s Todd Garner and Sean Robins have said it will be a Garfield-esq type story that will give Grumpy Cat (real name Tardar Sauce) the power of speech. Don’t expect him to say anything positive.
