Game of Thrones Season 4 Premiere Recap & Review: Top 10 Spoilers

Michiel Huisman, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Emilia Clarke
(Macall B. Polay/HBO)

Despite the world’s problems with HBO Go, everyone’s favorite show to scream at is back. Welcome to season 4 of Game of Thrones. Based on the first episode, we’re going to be in for one heck of a ride.

Here are the best moments from the episode to get you excited for the rest of the season:

1. Ned’s Sword Ice Is Melted Down and Turned into 2 New Swords

The sword, the legend. Ned Stark’s giant sword, Ice, made of valuable valyrian steel, was forged into two smaller, lesser swords. What makes matters worse is that the evil Tywin does it while the Rains of Castamere plays.

2. Jamie Has a Gold Hand

(Neil Davidson/HBO)

After having his sword hand was brutally chopped off during the war, Jamie has finally returned home to King’s Landing. Now, he needs something to replace that hideous stump, and it’s a golden hand.

3. Cersei Rejects Jamie

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Lena Headey.
(Neil Davidson/HBO)

4. We Finally Meet the Bisexual Badass Oberyn Martell

Pedro Pascal and Indira Varma
(Helen Sloan/HBO)

We have not seen a guy this cool on the show in ages. He has the swagger of James Bond, the sword skills of Jamie Lannister, and he hates the Lannisters almost as much as the Starks.

5. Martell Is There to Avenge the Murder of His Sister

During the war to usurp the mad king, Oberyn’s sister was raped and killed by Gregor Clegean, a.k.a The Mountain. Now he’s back in town to “pay his debts” to the Lannisters for what their henchman did to his sister.

On the second part of the episode, Arya and the Hound kill, a lot.

6. Arya Reclaims Needle

Ah Needle, the small blade given to Arya by her brother John Snow before he left for the wall. It’s a treasured gift that Arya won’t give up easily. She would even kill to get it back, and she does.

7. Arya Kills a Man

After a huge brawl, Arya shows what a sicko she is by entering two swords in to two different men, both times incredibly, uncomfortably slowly. That last kill, she even watches the light leaving the man’s eyes with glee.

8. The Hound Kills a Room Full of People

We’ve seen the Hound cut down multiple men before, but I’m not sure we’ve ever seen him, on his own, take our 5 men. He even killed the last one by repeatedly smashing his face and eyes down on an upturned dagger. Game of Thrones fight scenes are rarely pretty, but this one was brutal.

9. A Rift Is Forming Between Shae and Tyrion

Peter Dinklage and Sibel Kekilli
(Neil Davidson/HBO)

It’s confirmed, there is trouble in the totally irritating paradise that is Tyrion and Shae’s relationship. She comes on to him in his bedroom, that he shares with his wife, at a time when everyone is trying to kill him. He’s obviously not in the mood Shae, take a hint.

10. The Night’s Watch Don’t Know How to Feel About Jon’s Return

Rose Leslie
(Helen Sloan/HBO)

Jon is fairly certain he’s going to get beheaded when he returns to the wall, but after some fierce willing talk, and a lot of important information about the coming battle, he will be spared…for now.
