WWE Battleground 2014: The Results & Highlights You Need to Know

The superstars of the WWE have gathered to engage in some epic warfare at WWE Battleground 2014. We’ll make sure to list all the results and highlights of this explosive PPV/special WWE Network event. Make sure you check out the live PPV Kickoff show on the WWE Network, starting at 7:30 p.m. EST!


Adam Rose vs. Fandango

Winner: Adam Rose!

Best Moments/Highlights: Fandango immediately jumped on Adam Rose and dropped him with a nice back suplex. Rose’s “Rose Buds” sought to distract him while the match was going on. Fandango got slapped two times by Summer Rae and Layla when he jumped to the outside of the ring. Once Rose got him back in, he launched into his comeback array of moves. Rose then got the win with his Party Foul finisher.


Cameron vs. Naomi

Winner: Cameron!

Best Moments/Highlights: Naomi rushed to the ring to get her paws on Cameron, but Cameron cowered between the ropes. Cameron managed to sneak in a cheap shot on Naomi, which led to her getting in some brutal offense on her former partner. Cameron managed to lock Naomi in a submission for a while, but Naomi was forcibly kicked out out of it. Out of nowhere, Naomi got back into gear and started beating down Cameron. Cameron tried to walk away from the match, but Naomi caught up wit her and beat her down on the outside of the ring. Once back in the ring, Cameron kicked Naomi in the mouth and slapped her. Naomi recovered, but then got caught with a push into the ropes. Cameron then rolled up Naomi for a cheap pin by holding her tights for the 3-count.


The Usos (Jey and Jimmy Uso) (c) vs. The Wyatt Family (Erick Rowan and Luke Harper) (2-out-of-3 falls tag team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship)

Winners: And still the WWE Tag Team Champions, The Usos!

Best Moments/Highlights: Erick got his sheep mask knocked off as soon as the bell rung. Jey and him got into it for a while until Harper got tagged in. Jey knocked him down with a dropkick and pushed Harper to the outside. Both Usos ruled the roost as they both dropkicked Rowan off the ring apron. Harper and Jey re-entered the ring, which saw Harper get the upper hand by pushing Jey underneath the ropes. Rowan got tagged in and began twisting Jey’s neck in a submission attempt. Rowan and Harper worked on Jey by using tag team maneuvers and some brutal signature offense. Jey fought off Harper by landing a back suplex. Jey then got the hot tag to Jimmy, but he got caught with Harper’s big boot. Harper got the 1st pinfall win of the match. Once the 2nd fall began, Harper body splashed Jimmy into the corner. Rowan got tagged in and pulled off a body splash of his own. While Jey was out on the floor, Rowan and Harper brutalized his twin brother. Jimmy tried to fight back against Rowan, but he was too weak to keep Rowan up for a body slam attempt. Rowan fell on top of him, but only got a 2-count. Harper got back in and exchanged some painful punches with Jimmy, which saw Harper get the upper hand of the ordeal. Jey got tagged in and caught Harper off guard with a sudden 3-count for the 2nd pinfall win. Harper snapped and began assaulting Jey, but the ref stopped them. Once the 3rd fall began, Rowan entered the ring and hit a Fall Away slam on Jey. Harper got the tag and started working over a very weak Jey. Rowan soon made his return to the match with a body splash attempt in the corner, but Jey dodged it. Harper missed his book into the corner too, which then led to Jimmy getting the tag. Jimmy launched into over the top rope dives and body presses on Rowan and Harper. Jimmy landed an Enzuguri on Harper for a 2-count and then his signature comeback offense followed soon after. Harper dodged Jimmy’s butt splash attack and hit Jimmy with a body splash into the corner. Harper’s offensive string was cut off by Jimmy hitting a high-flying move off the top rope. Harper shook it off and then landed another big boot to Jimmy while was strewn near the corner. Harper hit his body press through the ring ropes on Jimmy and then went for a sitdown powerbomb. He got distracted though, as Rowan and Jey could be seen fighting on the outside. Things got even crazier as chaos ensued between both teams. Rowan got caught with a Superfly Splash , but kicked out at 2. In another exciting moment, Rowan superplexed both Usos but only got a 2-count on Jimmy. Harper got tagged in and looked to finish Jimmy with their tag team finisher, but Jey made the save with a Superkick on Rowan. Afterwards, Harper and Jimmy exchanged Superkicks of their own. Jimmy and Jey then hit dual Superkicks and then a double Superfly Splash on Harper for the final winning pin.


Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

Winner: Seth Rollins!

Best Moments/Highlights: Dean Ambrose’s sudden backstage attack on Seth Rollins led to Ambrose getting thrown out of the building. Rollins got the win via forfeit.


AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige (WWE Divas Championship)

Winner: And still WWE Divas Champion, AJ Lee!

Best Moments/Highlights: Paige and AJ made sure to show each other respect by shaking hands. They then locked up for a few moments before Paige went for a kick to AJ’s gut. AJ bounced off the rope and went for a quick roll-up pin on Paige. Paige kicked out and soon landed a stiff Superkick on on AJ. Paige then began to work over AJ with submissions, kicks and punches. Paige’s assault soon stopped when AJ landed a Tornado DDT on Paige. AJ got back up to her feet, but Paige pushed her out to the ring floor. Paige pushed AJ into the barricade with a forceful shove. AJ and Paige fought to the top of the ring ropes, which then led to Paige landing a Sunset Flip Powerbomb on AJ. AJ kicked out and soon countered Paige’s swinging slam attempt with her Black Widow. However, Paige got out and hit her Paige Turner finisher but only got a 2-count. Paige then looked to lock in her finishing submission, but AJ countered the attempt and got the win by hitting a Shining Wizard.


Jack Swagger vs. Rusev

Winner: Rusev!

Best Moments/Highlights: As soon as Swagger got into the ring, he fought off Rusev and pushed him out of the ring. Coulter caught a lethal slap from Lana before the bell even rang. Rusev charged at Swagger, but almost got caught in his Patriot Lock. Rusev charged back into the ring and began landing some vicious strikes on Swagger. Swagger countered him again though with another Patriot Lock attempt. While Swagger was outside arguing with Lana, Swagger hopped outside and threw him back into the ring. Rusev soon got the upper hand with a body Splash and a Fall Away Slam. Rusev locked Swagger in a submission hold for a while and then picked him for a stiff kick to the chest. Once Swagger recovered and started to land some punches on Rusev, Rusev launched him over the top rope to the outside. Swagger got some pep talk from Coulter after several punches from Rusev. Swagger entered into another mode and landed a clothesline and big boot on Rusev. Swagger then entered into his signature comeback moves, starting with the Swagger Bomb. Rusev kicked out of it though and began throwing haymakers at Swagger. Swagger fought them off and landed a Powerslam on Rusev for the 2-count. Swagger found himself standing on the ring apron, which led to Rusev kicking him right in the mouth. Rusev went for his Superkick, but Swagger caught his foot and finally locked him in the Patriot Lock. Rusev tried to reach for the ropes, but Swagger pulled him farther back. Rusev continued to crawl and eventually made it to the bottom rope. Swagger followed Rusev to the outside, clipped his knee and locked in the Patriot Lock again. Rusev countered by flipping over and launching Swagger into the steel ring post. Swagger got counted out as Rusev picked up the count out victory. After the match, Rusev continued his punishment of Swagger by locking in The Accolade.

Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho

Winner: Chris Jericho!

Best Moments/Highlights: Jericho and Bray began the match with an intense lock-up. Bray seemed to enjoy his intense start with Y2J. Bray soon ran straight at Jericho and put him into the corner with some stiff punches. Jericho chopped Bray for a bit before Bray powered Y2J back to the ring corner. Jericho soon landed his back elbow into Bray after throwing him into the ropes. Jericho laid in a few more chops on Bray, but Bray made his comeback by clotheslining Jericho to the mat. Bray continued punishing Jericho with some more strikes, but Jericho almost locked in his Walls of Jericho out of nowhere. A distraction from Rowan led to Jericho catching another punch to the mush from Bray. Jericho soon regained his strength, dropkicked Bray out of the ring and then splashed the entire Wyatt Family on the outside of the ring. Harper grabbed Jericho’s feet, which the ref saw. Both Rowan and Harper were soon ejected from the rest of the match. Bray caught Jericho off guard by shoving him off the ring apron into a unsuspecting cameraman. Bray returned his foe into the ring for some more damage. Jericho caught Bray off he top rope with a double axe handle, but this didn’t keep Bray down for long. Bray landed his spinning side slam on Jericho after a bit of a struggle. Bray then looked to land his Running Senton, but Jericho countered by getting his knees up at the last second. Jericho then hit a nice Enzuguri on Bray, but only managed to get a 2-count. Jericho got himself to the top rope, but Bray followed him up and began fighting him off. Bray managed to drop Jericho with a chin breaker like maneuver. Bray looked to hit his running splash into Jericho in the corner, but Jericho got his feet up for the counter. Jericho hit his Facebuster on Bray and then looked to finish him with the Lionsault. Bray then got his knees up and then entered his creepy Exorcist walk. Bray got Jericho up for his Uranage slam and followed it up with a running body splash into the corner. Bray’s trash talk to a weakened Jericho was all for naught, as Y2J grabbed Bray by his pants and shoved his head into the ring post. Bray escaped to the ring apron to get his breath back, but Y2J looked to land his Springboard Dropkick. Jericho instead landed on his feet next to Bray, but Bray caught him with a DDT on the ring apron. Bray only managed to grab a 2-count, though. Bray looked to land his Sister Abigail, but Jericho almost locked him in the Walls of Jericho. Bray fought out of it though and launched himself at Jericho again. Y2J kicked out of another 2-count. Then out of nowhere, Jericho grabbed the win after hitting a sudden Code Breaker.


Alberto Del Rio vs. Big E vs. Bo Dallas vs. Cesaro vs. Curtis Axel vs. Diego vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Fandango vs. Heath Slater vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Rob Van Dam vs. R-Truth vs. Ryback vs. Sheamus vs. Sin Cara vs. The Great Khali vs. The Miz vs. Titus O’Neil vs. Xavier Woods vs. Zack Ryder (20-Man Battleground Battle Royal for the vacant WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Winner: The new WWE Intercontinental Champion, The Miz!

Best Moments/Highlights: Everyone ganged up on The Great Khali to begin the match. Xavier Woods and Zach Ryder ended up getting eliminated by Khali anyway. After catching a Brogue Kick from Sheamus, Kahli got eliminated by by Sheamus and Cesaro. Sin Cara soon got thrown over the top rope. At one point, Ziggler almost got thrown out early after Cara’s exit. The action continued as every participant fought for the title. Soon, R-Truth and Curtis Axel got eliminated. Sandow (who was wearing the type of attire most people wear for a day at the beach) got eliminated. Ryback showed off his amazing prowess by flinging Diego out of the ring. Ryback began squaring off with Sheamus, but got himself launched over the top rope by a Brogue Kick. Suddenly, The Miz finally hopped into the ring and tried to get rid of Sheamus. Sheamus fought him off, though. After Titus O’Neil managed to power down Sheamus, Bo Dallas kneed Titus in the back for an elimination. In an amazing moment, Kofi pulled himself back into the ring while holding onto Cesaro while on the ring apron. Alberto Del Rio and Ziggler began battling, but Ziggler got himself out of an armbar on the ring ropes and got rid of Rio. Cesaro soon body slammed Big E out of the ring. Kofi somehow avoided elimination again by falling onto Big E’s shoulders. Cesaro suplexed him back into the ring and then finally got rid of him by suplexing him out of it. Out of nowhere, Heath Slater eliminated Cesaro. He didn’t get to celebrate long, though. Sheamus kicked him right out of the ring. Bo Dallas soon got kicked out of the ring by a recovered Ziggler. It then came down to Ziggler and Sheamus. A back and forth battle ensued between both men that saw both men avoid close calls. Ziggler landed a Superkick on Sheamus for the final elimination…or so we thought. The Miz ran back from under the ring and threw Ziggler over the top rope to become the last man standing.

John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Roman Reigns (Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Winner: And still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, John Cena!

Best Moments/Highlights: Once the bell rung, Cena vs. Orton and Reigns vs. Kane started things off. Orton pushed Cena off of him and ran into the ring to aid Kane, but he got stopped with 10 punches by a fresh Reigns. Kane brought Reigns down with a swift uppercut right after, though. Orton and Kane began working on Reigns, which saw both men land a double suplex on him. Cena ran into the scuffle at began beating down Orton. Orton and Kane teamed up again and put down Kane with their tandem offense. Kane looked to hurt Reigns on the outside, but Reigns threw the monster face first into the steel ring post. Cena entered into his signature moveset on Orton. His Attitude Adjustment attempt was thwarted by Orton’s squirming, but Cena decided to throw him out of the ring instead. Cena and Reigns almost got to face off, but Orton and Kane re-entered the ring. Kane landed a nice running DDT on Reigns, but only pulled off a 2-count. Kane and Orton’s alliance broke down and both men started tearing into each other. Kane lifted Orton up on the top rope for a Superplex, but Cena and Reigns dropped both men in a Tower of Doom slam. Reigns and Cena looked to do battle once again, but Kane woke up and stopped it from happening. Orton made his way back into the match and dropped both Cena and Reigns with dual DDT’s from between the ring ropes. The action got even more fast-paced as each man caught each other with more two-man maneuvers. As the match wore on, Cena landed his Attitude Adjustment on Kane and then locked Orton in his STF. Reigns kept Orton from tapping and threw him over the ringside announce table. Cena and Reigns then got their change to exchange some blows. Both men were equal at certain points during their battle, but Reigns soon got Cena down with a Samoan Slam. But Cena got himself up and back dropped Reigns and looked to lock him in the STF. Reigns got himself back into the scuffle with Cena by landing his Superman Punch and Spear. Reigns looked for the win, but Cena interrupted his pin. Reigns then went on a rampage by landing running dropkicks on each man. He finished off his 2nd wind of energy by spearing Orton through the ringside barricade. Reigns returned to the ring but got caught by Kane. Kane went for a chokeslam, but Reigns powered out of it and speared him once again. Cena disrupted the following pin, threw Reigns out of the ring and landed an Attitude Adjustment on Kane. After two separate failed attempts at pinning Kane, Cena hit an Attitude Adjustment on Reigns. Kane suddenly woke back up, stopped Cena from winning and chokeslammed both him and Reigns. Near the end, Reigns speared Kane again, but then Orton RKO’d Reigns out of nowhere. Orton then got hit with an AA from Cena onto Kane. Cena used this opportunity to finally grab the win.

Match of the Night

The Usos vs. The Wyatt Family!


Best Non-Match Moments/Highlights

• Summer Rae and Layla surely displeased Fandango, as they made a pretty hype entrance with his opponent Adam Rose.

• The Usos made sure to get themselves hype for their upcoming war with The Wyatt Family.

• Seth Rollins did a backstage segment, which saw him speaking about squashing Dean Ambrose for the final time. He told Ambrose that he’s going to get everything he bargained for from his former Shield teammate. Rollins then made his ambitions clear about winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Suddenly, Ambrose attacked him Rollins right in the middle of his interview. HHH and security then threw Ambrose out of the building.

• A movie trailer like advertisement aired for WWE Summerslam 2014.

• Before Rusev and Swagger’s bout, Lana made sure to express the weakness of the United States (you know, her usual routine).

• Stardust and Goldust continued to their series of confusing and downright insane backstage promos. What was it about? No one really knows…

• Seth Rollins came out into the arena and looked to accept his victory via forfeit. Rollins got his wish when the ref raised his hand as the ring announcer made his official match announcement. Suddenly, Ambrose shocked the crowd by returning to the arena to beat down Rollins again. Both men fought through the crowd. Ambrose threw Rollins right onto the Spanish Announce Table, but security proceeded to take Ambrose away. Ambrose broke away one final time and jumped on Rollins for some more punishment. It was even harder to get Ambrose off of him this time. HHH came out and pushed Ambrose into security. As Ambrose was getting taken out of the building, Rollins proceeded to hop onto him over the top rope. The chaos between them ensued for a little while longer before they both got separated for the final time. HHH then raised Rollins hand while the crowd booed them both.

• Seth Rollins left the arena with security in tow. At a certain point, Rollins told his guards to leave him be. While Rollins looked around for Ambrose, Ambrose hopped out of a car trunk and began roughing up Rollins…AGAIN! Rollins escaped Ambrose and drove away in his getaway car while Ambrose licked his chops.

• Wade Barrett (while wearing an arm sling) came out to give some bad news. He noted that whoever wins the WWE Intercontinental Champion would have to deal with an eventual Bull Hammer from the former champ.
