When Tori Spelling first got wind of her husband Dean McDermott’s cheating scandal, she confronted her husband and asked for the truth … and soon she got more truth than she could handle. While working in Canada, McDermott had a two-day affair with a 28-year-old woman named Emily Goodhand and the life that Spelling knew was instantly over. Spelling had always worried about McDermott one day cheating on her because the way they got together was by cheating on their then spouses. 1. Their Affair Was Made Public in December 2013
Radar Online reported that:
Goodhand revealed to Us Weekly magazine that on December 6 that they met at the Pravda Vodka House but it was after a long dinner and drinking in another bar with a group of friends that Spelling’s husband slipped his room key and a piece of paper with his phone and room numbers in her purse.
Goodhand claimed she initially was just going to go home, but “made a stupid decision” because McDermott was so charming. Goodhand explained:
He was romantic and very complimentary. He was telling me, ‘You’re so beautiful.’ I had to call him on his bullshit, like, ‘Stop saying this stuff.’ He wanted to make me feel really good. Then the time for talking was over.
Goodhand says that she and McDermott used protection.
2. McDermott Reportedly Told Goodhand He Was in a Sexless Marriage
Goodhand told Radar Online:
He told me he and Tori had a sexless marriage. I believed him … He said, ‘I love my wife. I love her so much, but she just won’t sleep with me.’ I didn’t ask why because it was awkward.
On the first season of reality show True Tori, in couples’ therapy McDermott says that he hadn’t had sex with his wife right before he left and that’s part of the reason he cheated. He said they always had sex right before he went away for business. Wife Spelling became enraged and said that the weekend just before she had even bought certain sex toys and done things she’s never even tried before because “he wanted it.” McDermott appears to become a mix of angry and embarrassed, storming out of the room saying that he refuses to talk about his sex life on TV.
3. McDermott Went to Rehab for his Cheating
When McDermott’s cheating was exposed to the world, he reportedly hit rock bottom. He then decided to check himself into rehab for the better of himself, his marriage, and his family. While in rehab, McDermott admitted to being a pathological liar, suffering from substance abuse, and being addicted to sex. He basically said that he had become someone else and that he never wanted to hurt his wife. While McDermott was in rehab, wife Tori Spelling was at home with their four children, trying to manage as a single parent, though it is reported that the family has three nannies.
4. The Aftermath of the Affair Plays Out on McDermott and Spelling’s Reality Show True Tori
The first season of True Tori focused on Spelling and McDermott trying to overcome McDermott’s affair with Goodhand. The second season still focuses on this, but at the same time, covers Spelling’s financial issues. At one point, Spelling meets with McDermott’s ex-wife to discuss his cheating. 5. Many Questioned if Goodhand Was Even Real
Because Tori Spelling and husband Dean McDermott are suffering from financial problems, viewers have speculated that the couple has “made up” the cheating scandal. However, if you’ve ever watched True Tori and seen Spelling completely breakdown, it’s hard to believe the affair is fake. If that’s the case, Spelling deserves an Oscar. Because there are no photos of social media accounts of Goodhand, some believe that she’s simply a story line. The Hollywood Gossip writes:
So it’s possible Ms. Goodhand is just living off the grid in a tree house somewhere, but in 2014 would it even be possible to hide from a full-blown media manhunt for this long? Conveniently, Dean’s imaginary friend is said to be living in rural Canada. Tori and Dean probably think that’s a perfect explanation for why she’s been so hard to track down, but really it’s a story that smells as fishy as when your high school friend claimed you can’t meet his girlfriend because she’s traveling the world doing supermodel stuff. Tori has explained before that there’s big money in making up plotlines for “reality” TV shows, and the Spelling-McDermotts have openly discussed their financial woes in the past.
Spelling, herself, didn’t look at a photo of Goodhand until recently, which aired on True Tori. Spelling said she felt devastated and shocked because she found the woman unatrractive. She told her therapist:
I was completely blown away by what Emily looked like. I found her unattractive. Before this, I would never have felt threatened by that girl.’ I’d be like, ‘My husband would never,’ but now all bets are off. It could be anyone.
When the news first broke about the affair, many believed an actress who was named Emily Goodhand was the mistress, but she claims she never met McDermott and that she had nothing to do with the affair. Check out her tweets below:

Despite the scrutiny of the public, it is very easy to believe the affair did happen considering that Spelling and McDermott got together in their own affair, cheating on their own spouses at the time.
