Top 10 Best Music Videos of 2014

This year of music was filled with controversy, sure. But luckily, we were gifted with some catchy hits that climbed the charts and a few songs that initially broke on your favorite social media networks. A slew of chart-topping artists entered the studio to produce plenty of memorable tunes. But only some of them have magnified the experience of listening to their songs by starring in creative music videos. Major kudos goes out the directors and musicians who made these excellent music videos happen. Jam out with us as we present to you the top 10 best music videos of 2014!

10. “Good Kisser” – Usher

Here’s one of the more slept-on songs of the year. “Good Kisser” should have dominated the radio a lot more, in our opinion. And the video? Full of the expected sex appeal from one of our favorites, Usher. That beauty with the freckles and the incredibly sweet and sexy visuals of moving lips made out day (and night). Usher’s choreographed steps alongside his younger dancers and leading lady made the simple visuals all the more enticing.

9. “U Guessed It” – OG Maco

Huh-lah-ree-us! Things start off quiet enough…THEN BOOM! OG Maco blesses you headphones with the loudest proclamation of any rapper this year. OG and his crew terrorized a hotel and entertained us along the way. Besides the too funny lyrics and hard-to-forget chorus, the trippy video presentation here gets a thumbs up from us. “BITCH, U GUESSED IT…WOO!” Man, the bass on this tune is wicked!

8. “Shake It Off” – Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has the honor of having the one album that went platinum in 2014. We’re quite pleased with that fact since we wanted that to happen since her “Shake It Off” video screams “millions of copies sold.” Swift did an awesome job here as she replicated plenty of musical genres and dance styles to the delight of everyone. B-Boy Swift and Black Swan Swift may be our favorite alter-egos of this pop princess.

7. “7/11” – Beyonce

Beyonce shut down the internet with a music video that was shot entirely by a GoPro camera? Yep, she sure did. It’s quite amazing to witness actually – ‘Yonce takes over hotel and exudes dangerous levels of sexiness through every camera shot. Good lord…watching Queen B and her backup dancers move so “sensually” did so much for us. Beyonce looked like she a had a ton of fun and so did we.

6. “Anaconda” – Nicki Minaj

Whoa…just whoa! Did anyone else take way too many screenshots from this raunchy as hell vid? It’s hard to deny the catchy nature of this tune devoted to the wonderful butts. The video did an incredible job of giving dirtbags everywhere something to watch as soon as they wake up – Nicki Minaj gyrating for close to 5 minutes. The concept of this vid was dope and we saw the perfect amount of Miss Minaj. Drake loved this video, we know that for sure.

5. “Dark Horse” – Katy Perry feat. Juicy J

“Memphis, Egypt. A long time ago…” What follows next is a trippy voyage into ancient Egypt. The Technicolor vibes we got from this vid will stay with us forever. Katy’s reign as the most colorful queen of ’em all put this vid way over the top. And that’s exactly why we love it. “Dark Horse” is supported one of the most creative vids to drop this year. Shout out to Juicy J for this line “Shorty’s heart is on steroids cause her love is so strong.”

4. “Turn Down for What” – DJ Snake feat. Lil Jon

This video made no sense whatsoever. Which is the exact reason why we can never forget it. One entire building of tenants went on a EDM rampage while this DJ Snake=produced/Lil Jon assisted song began playing. As everyone began hopping down to new floors, more madness ensued. The dancing boobs and crunk dancing made us wild out right at our works desks. If there’s one music vid you’re gonna turn on to while on the big screen at your New Year’s Eve party, this is the one. “TURN DOWN FOR WHAT!”

3. “Chandelier” – Sia

Here’s one of those music videos that you’ll accidentally turn to on a boring day…and watch all the way through. The simple concept of a miniature lady dancing ferociously in an abandoned home was incredible to watch. Man, the part where she lands that split and continues to contort her body? It matches up perfectly with the powerful song that inspired her and this inspirational music video.

2. “i” – Kendrick Lamar

Don’t be shocked when everyone is trying to pull off the “Chicken Dance” at every party you go to. K. Dot’s “i” has us extra pumped for his upcoming LP. We loved his live SNL performance of the song, but the official music video made this song all the more sweeter. Lamar runs through an inner-city sanctum that’s filled with equal parts fun and strife. The message explained in this vid keeps the positive vibes in our hearts alive. We give this vid extra points for the cameos from George Clinton and Ron Isley aka “Mr. Biggs.”

1. “Never Catch Me” – Flying Lotus feat. Kendrick Lamar

This video should be put on permanent display at art exhibits across the nation. Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar got together to create a song that reflects on the perils and triumphs that come from life/death. What made the experience complete was the music video that accompanies it. From start to finish, we were floored by the cinematography and dance number presented by the two young kids who starred in the video. The final visual of the kids riding off their hearse into the sunset automatically makes this the best music video of 2014.
