In an interview about The Blacklist, James Spader told Sky Living that he doesn't push for information about what's going to happen in the future of the show. He wants to be surprised too, and so he only wants to know what is necessary for performing in each episode. He also said he doesn't try to nail down specifics about the future of the show because the creators need fluidity, and a show needs to be able to change and evolve through the seasons.
