PHOTOS: Mel Gibson & Andrew Garfield at ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Venice Premiere

Mel Gibson's first film in 10 years is Hacksaw Ridge, a World War II epic that mixes pacifism with bloody violence. The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and could be a potential Oscar player. Lionsgate will release the film on November 4, 2016.

Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) stars as Desmond T. Doss, an Army Medic who served during World War II and vowed to never kill anyone. He refused to use a weapon as a Seventh-day Adventist. He served in the Pacific and received a Medal of Honor for his heroism at Okinawa. He was the first conscientious objector to receive the military's highest honor.

So far, the film has received good reviews from critics and the audience in Venice loved it. Deadline reports that the film received a 10-minute standing ovation.
