#WeMissYouBig Notorious B.I.G. Tribute Videos by Fans

Sean Diddy Combs, shortly after midnight on the 20th anniversary of Notorious B.I.G.’s death, urged fans to post tributes to the slain rapper using the hashtag #WeMissYouBig.

“I want you to rap your favorite Biggie verse and post it with the hashtag WeMissYouBig,” Combs said. “I’m going to chop it up, edit it up and everything and we’re going to put out something special celebrating Notorious BIG’s life. We miss you BIG.”

And fans complied, honoring the rapper with tweets, videos and posts.

Combs said he has big plans for some of the tributes (see more toward the end of this article). Here’s Combs’ video on the hashtag:

The rapper, who was born Christopher Wallace, died in a drive-by shooting 20 years ago on March 9. The slaying remains unsolved.

Combs wrote on Twitter, “20 years ago today we lost the greatest rapper of all time, The Notorious B.I.G. #WeMissYouBIG.” On Instagram, Combs wrote, “20 years ago today we lost the greatest rapper of all time, The Notorious B.I.G. We’re celebrating his life through his music and through his legacy today. I want everyone to get involved and rap your favorite Biggie verse, tag me and use the hashtag #WeMissYouBIG @badboyent.”

People did.

The Combs’ video had over 100,000 views on Instagram alone in just two hours. According to Billboard, BET Networks will also have “a day-long celebration of the rap icon’s life and works.” Social media was indeed filled with people posting tributes using the hashtag.

Biggie was shot four times in a drive-by-shooting March 9, 1997 and died about one hour later. He died as he was in the middle of a dramatic rise in the music industry after releasing many top-selling — and charting — albums. He started rapping as a Brooklyn teen on the streets of Brooklyn. It was producer Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs who heard his demo and signed Biggie to his newly-formed label, Bad Boy Records.

Here are more examples of the Twitter and Instagram tributes using the hashtag.
