Tonight was the 2017 CFDA Awards for fashion, with celebrities, high-end designers, models and personalities showing up for the event. The CFDA, which stands for Council of Fashion Designers of America, has a mission “to strengthen the influence and success of American designers in the global economy.” Seth Meyers hosted tonight’s event and Swarovski teamed up with the organization for the sixteenth year in a row, according to E! News. The awards this year took place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City and we have all the info on the winners, honorees and best red carpet moments. First let’s get into some of the winners.
Womenswear Designer of the Year – Raf Simons for Calvin Klein
Swarovski Award for Positive Change – Kenneth Cole
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award – Rick Owens
Founder’s Award – Pat McGrath
Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent – Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia for Monse
International Award – Demna Gvasalia, Vetements and Balenciaga
Board of Directors’ Tribute – Cecile Richards, Gloria Steinem, and Janelle Monáe
Fashion Icon Award – Franca Sozzani
Menswear Designer of the Year – Raf Simons
Accessory Designer of the Year – Stuart Vevers, Coach
When it comes to the purpose of the CFDA Awards, the official CFDA website, describes the event as the “highest honor in fashion and recognize the outstanding contributions made to American fashion in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as journalism, creative vision, personal style, and lifetime achievement.”
