Where Was Hallmark’s ‘The Sweetest Christmas’ Filmed?

Crown Media

All Hallmark Countdown to Christmas movies bring a feeling of magic and nostalgia with them. The Sweetest Christmas is no exception. In this movie, our lead character finds love while participating in a gingerbread competition. But if you want to join that same competition in the city where the filming took place, you’ll be out of luck. The Sweetest Christmas actually wasn’t filmed in the United States. But you can still find a gingerbread competition this season if you want!

The Sweetest Christmas was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The movie actually started filming in mid-June through June 28. Moonlight in Vermont and A Wish for Christmas were also filmed in this same region.

One location from BC that we know was used in the movie was the Army and Navy department store in Langley, BC, according to WhatsFilming.ca.

Lacey Chabert. who plays Kylie, told Business Insider that any Christmas movie for Hallmark is a joy to make, but it’s also a tough schedule to keep. You “eat, breathe, and sleep and the movie” she said, adding: “It’s intense — it’s hard to make a movie in 15 days. They know what they are doing.” She added that most movies are filmed int he summer even though they’re set at Christmas time, and that’s fine with her. “I’ve gotten used to being really hot and sweating in my boots.”

So how is snow made in the summer? There are different ways, including snow blankets, a product called Krendl that’s tough to clean, fire-retardant foam, ice shavings taken from ice blocks, snow from ski slope machines, and crushed limestone.

The synopsis for the movie reads:

After breaking up with her long-term boyfriend just before the holidays, passionate baker Kylie reconnects with her high school sweetheart, Nick. Thanks to their newly rekindled friendship, Kylie uses Nick’s restaurant to prepare for a gingerbread baking competition with a large cash prize that would help her open her own bakery.

This movie will be absolutely delightful, like all the other Hallmark movies we know and love. Even though it wasn’t filmed in a small U.S. town and it wasn’t actually filmed in the winter, that really won’t affect the movie’s magic and romance at all. We’re still really looking forward to seeing it.
