Blue Goes Mew, Reckful’s Ex-Girlfriend, Receives Support From Social Media Users

Blue Goes Mew, the ex-girlfriend of Twitch streamer Bryon “Reckful,” Bernstein thanked social media users for their support after revealing the gamer had died by suicide on Thursday. The cosplayer, whose real name is Blue Madrigal, was the first to confirm the news. As noted by Forbes, many people in the gaming community shared the number for the suicide prevention hotline if anyone needed help (1-800-273-8255).

Madrigal thanked those who offered kind words and remembered Reckful–who was one of most popular World of Warcraft players in the world–and reminded people to be kind to each other. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out. I wish he could see how much he is loved and all of the sweet things people have said to honor his memory. Remember, your words/tweets affect people, even the famous people,” she wrote. “Please be kind.”

At first, Madrigal didn’t reveal who had died, but as fan speculation grew she confirmed it was Reckful. “Yes, it’s him. He’s gone,” she wrote. “I’ve been having a panic attack for an hour. I don’t know what to do. Byron, I wish I could have helped you. We all do. I’m so sorry I couldn’t. Thank you for being a part of my life. Love you always.”

Heavy reached out to Madrigal for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Social Media Users Told Madrigal Not to Blame Herself

Madrigal shared a text exchange that she had with Reckful, where she tried to talk to him on the phone. “God f***ing dammit, I wish he picked up the phone. I knew he was sad but not how sad. I’m so devastated,” she wrote. The text exchange showed that Reckful said it was too hard for him to talk right now, and Madrigal assuring him she was there if he needed her.

Social media users offered their condolences to Madrigal, with many telling her not to blame herself. “Blue, it isn’t your fault. I’m 100% sure you did and would have done anything in your power to prevent this,” one of the top commenters wrote. “There was nothing you could have done. Please don’t think about the what-ifs.” Another added: “I’m so sorry, you were a great influence in his life.”

Reckful had been open about struggling with his mental health. “I thought my depression was impossible to fix… that was keeping me stuck. believe change is possible,” he wrote in 2018. “You aren’t locked to your current reality.”

In January, he talked about feeling better on Twitch. “I’m happy. I can say with confidence… I am happy even when I’m doing nothing and I’m alone. I’ve never felt this way in my life,” he said. “I’m not saying it’s going to last forever, but right now I am so happy and I want to keep it going.”

His final posts on Twitter seemed to indicate he was in distress.
