Nintendo Unveils New 3DS and Wii U Content: Top 10 Facts You Need to Know


Nintendo’s latest Nintendo Direct online broadcast debuted a number of new games for the company’s handheld system, the Nintendo 3DS. The Wii U wasn’t left out of today’s video feed though, as new footage and DLC was shown for the system’s released games.

Here’s what you should know about all the upcoming games and future DLC content that’s on it’s way to Nintendo’s consoles.


1. New Footage for Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Was Shown



Mario’s green toting hat sibling Luigi was shown running around in his upcoming 3DS title, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. Luigi is seen sucking up ghosts and solving puzzles with his vacuum peripheral in tow. The multiplayer footage of the game showcases four players using different colored Luigi’s as they suck up ghosts on various mansion floors. The game is set for release on March 24, 2013.


2. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Is On The Way


A brand new installment in the Mario & Luigi RPG series was shown for the first time. Players delve into Luigi’s dreams as they solve puzzles and defeat their enemies in role playing battles. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team will be landing on the 3DS sometime this summer.


3. A New Mario Golf Game Was Debuted


Mario Gold: World Tour, a brand new game in the Mario Golf series, was shown. New courses, familiar characters and new victory animations were displayed during the game’s initial presentation. This 3DS sports game is due out for release this summer.


4. Animal Crossing: New Leaf Was Shown


The 3DS version of the next Animal Crossing game, New Leaf, was displayed. The game, which will be available on June 9 of this year, places players in the role of town mayor this time around. Players can build their house and speak with the animal denizens of their town. They will be responsible for their town’s well-being and growth, along with the customization of their home and stores.


5. New LEGO City Undercover Footage Was Released


LEGO City Undercover for the Wii U was displayed; its release date is set for March 18, 2013. As for the 3DS version, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, it will hit stores on April 21. This open world game will place players in a LEGO inspired world as an undercover officer. The 3DS version will feature a storyline that takes place two years before the Wii U version.


6. A New Game Called HarmoKnight Was Revealed


A new downloadable title for the 3DS was shown – HarmoKnight. This title was developed by the creators of the Pokemon games, Game Freak Inc. Their new game is a rhythm based platformer that tasks players with attacking and jumping on enemies while keeping the beat for a background tune.


7. Mario & Donkey Kong 3DS Debuted


The next Mario & Donkey Kong game is heading for the 3DS and is titled Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis On The Move. This puzzle themed Mario game will land on the the Nintendo eShop soon. New puzzle modes and minigames were shown, as well as spruced up graphics and animations.


8. New Gameplay Footage of Dillon’s Rolling Western 2 Was Shown


A sequel to Dillon’s Rolling Western, subtitled The Last Ranger, was shown. This upcoming Nintendo eShop release is a tower defense game that also incorporates elements of real time action gameplay. This new game now allows players to recruit animal allies for battle. The game will be available via digital download on April 11.


9. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3DS Was Unveiled


The Donkey Kong Country Returns series is slated to return to the 3DS in the form of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. This platformer will now feature enhanced 3D graphics. An exclusive 3D video of the game can be seen on the Nintendo eShop now.


10. New Downloadable Content Was Shown for New Super Mario Bros. U


Nintendo dubbed 2013 as the year of Luigi. They marked this event by plenty of new announcements for the character, including news of Luigi DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U. This new adventure is titled “New Super Luigi U” and will feature new courses for players to experience. Mario won’t be present during his brother’s solo adventure. This DLC will come as a hefty download for the system, as evidenced by what Satoru Iwata had to say about it.
