It seems like the recent run of LEGO-inspired video games always improve in quality. Kids and adults alike seem to get a kick out of running around in a colorful connecting block filled world that features recognizable movie characters, comic book heroes/villains and original LEGO characters.

The LEGO phenomenon is getting bigger and better. Want proof? A full-length film is coming out for the LEGO franchise. This also means a game inspired by the film is making its way over to gamers. If history repeats itself, we could have another smash hit LEGO video game on our hands.

Here’s everything you need to know about The LEGO Movie Videogame.

1. Traveller’s Tales Games is Developing This Latest LEGO Game

Traveller’s Tales, the main developers behind this upcoming LEGO game, definitely has some experience when it comes to creating these types of titles. TT has worked on several noteworthy LEGO games, including:

LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
LEGO Batman: The Videogame
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Videogame
LEGO City Undercover
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

2. Two New Character Types Will Be Available for Play

The LEGO Movie Videogame will be introducing two new types of characters – Regular Builders and Master Builders. The Regular Builders don’t have the ability to build objects out of any piles of LEGO pieces unless they have building instruction pages in their possession. These pages are needed to develop any objects with specific LEGO pieces. However, the Master Builders have no need to instruction pages. These characters can construct objects just by grabbing any LEGO pieces in the environment and use them to craft any amount of new objects.

3. The Game’s Entire Environment Will Be Completely Made Out of LEGO Pieces

Past LEGO games have featured certain objects that are made out of the blocks and studs we know we well. The LEGO Movie Videogame will be going a different route this time around – everything in the game, from the characters all the way down to the buildings you’ll see in the environment, will be made entirely out of LEGO blocks/bricks.

4. There Will Be Over 90 Characters Available for Play

LEGO video games are known for featuring a large cast of playable characters. This one in particular will let gamers take control of over 90 familiar and original characters. Drop-in/drop-out co-op play will also be a part of this new LEGO release. Some of those aforementioned playable characters include:

– Emmet
– Batman
– Superman
– The Green Ninja
– Gandalf

5. A Brand New Animation Style Will Debut in the Game

The game will reflect the animation style that will be seen in the accompanying film. For a good look at how everything will look and sound in the movie/game, you can take a peek at the movie trailer and video game trailer above.

The main protagonist of this LEGO game entry, Emmet, will be featured as players take on his epic journey. A press release for the title spilled the beans on the overall plot of The LEGO Movie Videogame:

Transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and experience the ultimate LEGO building experience in the all new The LEGO® Movie Videogame. Step into the world of Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average citizen who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Players guide him as he is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
