Sony PlayStation E3 2014 Press Conference: Top 10 Facts You Need to Know

Sony finished off the 1st day of E3 2014 press conferences on a high note. Here’s everything that went down during Sony’s PlayStation E3 2014 press conference!


1. Destiny Began the Show

The show started off with a bang as a new trailer for Bungie Games’ Destiny hit the big screen. The trailer depicted astronauts as they stepped onto the planet Mars on the present day. The narrator of the trailer spoke about a supreme Darkness that found the human race and ended everything. A mysterious object locates one sole survivor – you. As the trailer wore on, the game’s Guardians could be seen fighting off hordes of planetary enemies with future firearms. PlayStation gamers will get their hands on the Destiny beta on July 17, 2014. Starting this Thursday and through the weekend, a special PS4 alpha will be available online. A special White PS4/Destiny bundle will be coming out on September 9, 2014. A great deal of new Destiny content will be awarded to PlayStation owners upon release.


2. New Gameplay Footage of The Order: 1886 Was Shown

New footage of The Order: 1886 showed off a new sequence where one of the main characters could be seen engaging with a foul beast. It was pretty awesome to see just how seamless the CG scenes into real-time gameplay instances could look onscreen.


3. A Flashy New Title Called Entwined Made Its 1st Showing

Entwined, an interesting gameplay experience that uses the cooperation of two players, got to take the live stage. The game is available now on the PS4 for $9.99. The PS Vita and PS3 versions of the game will be coming sometime soon. This interesting downloadable title is centered around “two souls that are in love, but can’t be together.”

4. A New Does of Infamous: Second Son DLC Was Shown in a Teaser Trailer

A new piece of stand alone DLC for Infamous: Second Son was shown, which is planned for release in August 2014. The DLC, called Infamous: Second Son – First Light, showed only some brief scenes from what’s sure to come. What we managed to get from the trailer is that player swill be able to use Fetch. This piece of DLC can be downloaded as a stand-alone digital product, but players who own the physical game will get extra content.


5. A Huge Demo for LittleBigPlanet 3 Popped Up

LittleBigPlanet 3 made its surprising debut as a PS4 exclusive. A new second mascot for the game, Oddsock, was seen pulling off wall jumps while Sackboy watched in amazement. Another new character named Swoop showed off the ability to fly. Toggle can change his weight and form at any time. Sackboy and his new buddies traversed across a stage packed with puzzles and interesting co-op situations. An official game trailer hit the screen once the gameplay demo came to a close. Every level from the last two games will be in this 3rd iteration.

6. From Software’s Bloodborne Was Shown

A completely new Sony IP was shown in one of the best trailers of the evening – Bloodborne. This debuting piece of footage showed a single man walking amongst hideous ghouls in a darkened environment. The CG trailer showcased some elements of what gamers have seen in the Dark/Demon’s Souls series (the director of the Dark Souls’ games is behind this new title). This title (formerly known as “Project Beast”) will launch sometime in 2015.


7. Far Cry 4 Was Given Its Time to Shine in a New Gameplay Trailer

Far Cry 4’s new main mercenary, Ajay Ghale, was shown off in a nice chunk of exclusive gameplay. He could be seen sneaking around the mountains and jungle before coming upon an outpost. Once he reached the outpost, Ajay began silently taking out his enemies, stealing a truck and taking down other enemies in rival vehicles. The vehicle was taken down by a landslide, which lead to Ajay parachuting of the side of the high road. A 2nd player named Hurk joined the mission at hand and offered some extra firepower. Both players wreaked havoc on an outpost as elephants stampeded around. PS3/PS4 players can invite owners and even non-owners of Far Cry 4 for some multiplayer co-op gameplay.


8. Dead Island 2 Was Shown

A wild and zany trailer for a new zombie apocalypse focused game was shown for Dead Island 2 . A normal man taking his daily jog ran through some undead chaos while some music blared through his headphones. Near the end of the trailer, the jogger transformed into a zombie himself as a fellow horde ran beside him. Dead Island 2’s 30-day beta and extra character class will come exclusively to PS4 players.


9. New Gameplay for No Many’s Sky Was Shown

An extremely vivid gameplay trailer for No Man’s Sky was shown. The main player made its way around a planet inhabited by huge lizards while spaceships sped through the skies. Once the player’s own spaceship was located, the game showed how seamless and easy players accessing the skies could be. There was no loading seen as the spaceship flew off the dinosaur filled planet right into space and then onto a newly discovered planet. Each player will start off on a different planet, which means no two experiences will be the same.


10. World Premier Footage of Mortal Kombat X Was Shown

An exclusive piece of Mortal Kombat X footage showed Scorpion, Sub-Zero and two all new characters doing battle. Environmental attacks, huge special moves, Fatalities and brutal bits of extra gory gameplay was shown to the world for the very 1st time.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was seen in a new teaser trailer. This 4th entry in the main series is launching in 2015.

Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will include some of the monstrous creatures from The Last of Us.

• Another bit of Battlefield: Hardline gameplay was shown off.

• Select PlayStation platforms (PS3 and PS4)will get exclusive items, like The Hulk, for Disney Infinity’s Marvel expansion.

• Paradox Entertainment gave gamers a look at their newest 4-player co-op adventure, Magicka 2.

• Tim Schafer’s highly regarded adventure game Grim Fandango is getting an HD release on the PS4 and PS Vita.

• Many upcoming donwloadable PS3/PS Vita/PS4 games were put on display – Broforce, Titan Souls, Not A Hero, Hotline Miami 2 and The Talos Principle.

• Suda51’s new game, Let it Die, was officially unveiled as a PS4 exclusive. The new trailer showed off several players with life bars and levels near their names as they engaged in some brutal combat.

• Video game developer Giant Squid got to show off their upcoming PS4 title – Abzu.

• Sony’s planned VR headset, Project Morpheus, was spoken about in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye. Two gameplay demos was for the VR tool were announced for the press at the E3 2014 showroom floor.

• The PSN Network got an entire segment of the press conference to itself. Youtube compatibility with the Share feature will be arriving sometime soon. Users will immediately be able to upload their gameplay to their personal YouTube channel. Twitch and Ustream interactivity was important in Sony’s sharing/broadcasting function speech. The Playroom will be receiving new free DLC experiences this summer. New free-to-play games were also displayed.

• New DLC for Killzone: Shadow Fall ( called Inception) was shown.

• PS Now’s service will be available in the US/Canada as an open beta on July 31, 2014. It will soon become available on the PS3 and PS Vita afterwards. The PS Now service will come later to select Sony TV’s. 100 games will be offered to PS Now beta users. Some of those games include Dead Space 3 and Ultra Street Fighter 4. All you’ll have to do is pick up a DualShock 3 controller to play.

• The PlayStation TV peripheral was shown. Disney Infinity will be coming to this new piece of hardware. The PS TV will be sold for $99 upon launch. A bundle of the PS TV will come with the PS TV, a DualShock3, a memory card and The LEGO Movie.

• Sony announced one new show as a part of its exclusive programming – Powers, which will be launching in December. The 1st episode will be free for everyone. PS+ subscribers will get to watch the entire series for free.

• A new trailer for the Ratchet & Clank movie was shown. This new film will hit theaters in 2015. A new PS4 re-imagining of the 1st Ratchet & Clank game is coming at the same time as the film.

• A trailer for the PS4 version of The Last of Us was showcased. This remastered edition is coming to the PS4 on July 29, 2014.

• A new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was shown.

• Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 was announced as a new PS4 game that’s coming this fall. New enhancements will make it into the new version. Past-gen console owners will be able to transfer their characters into the next-gen edition. GTA 5 is also coming to the Xbox One and PC.

• A new gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight made its welcome debut.
