PAX Prime 2014: Top 10 Video Games You Need to Play

PAX Prime 2014 is going to host several video game publishers and their biggest upcoming releases. Microsoft Studios, Square Enix, 2K Games, Nintendo and many more big-name game companies will treat the event’s attendees to some playable demos.

Once you step into the huge convention center in Seattle, Washington, your senses are going to be in overload mode. There’s going to so many things to play, see, listen to, smell, buy and get super excited about. On the video games front, there are going to be a few titles that you’ll want to set aside some time for. These 10 games need to be on your PAX Prime 2014 to-do list.

10. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX


We’re pretty pleased to hear that Square Enix is showing their ardent Kingdom Hearts fan base some love at PAX Prime 2014. The HD 2.5 ReMix will be playable on the show floor and show off the many improvements that are being out into this remixed and improved version of three separate KH games.

Among the newest additions to the game includes new bosses and enemies such as Roxas and Monstro, never-before-seen cutscenes and new playable episodes. This ultimate love letter to fans of the 2nd string of KH titles have much to look forward to once this game officially releases on December 2, 2014. You might as well demo it early at PAX Prime 2014.


9. ID@Xbox Games

Fenix Rage.

Microsoft will be throwing a special event during PAX Prime 2014’s festivities at its beautiful Microsoft Campus. On Thursday (August 28, 2014), Microsoft will showcase its line of indie games through its ID@Xbox game initiative. Head on down to the Microsoft Building 92 (15010 NE 36th Street, Redmond, WA 98052) from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. PST and partake in playing 25 upcoming Xbox indie titles.

Not only will you get to play some upcoming release such as #IDARB, Dive Kick, Gunscape and Fenix Rage, you’ll get to talk to the actual developers behind each project. To get a full listing of all the game that will be available for play at this event, hit up this LINK.


8. Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

The Rise of the Tomb Raider won’t be showing up for PAX Prime 2014, but Lara Croft will still be raiding some tombs on the showroom floor. This 4-player, co-op top-down adventure features Lara and three other heroes as they look to vanquish the evil god Set.

You’ll run alongside your friends, raid some tombs, defeat hordes from the Egyptian underworld and collect all types of valuable treasure. You’ll be able to play this sequel to Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light on December 9, 2014, but you should check it out early at PAX Prime 2014.


7. The Crew

Ubisoft is ready to give racing game fans a closer look at their upcoming racer, The Crew. This state spanning, open-world racer features a a cool team-racing mechanic and a 20-hour long campaign that’s worth delving into.

For those of you who didn’t get to play the closed PC beta, you can all head to PAX Prime 2014 and see what those lucky beta testers got to experience. If you’re addicted to the Need for Speed series and are ready to for a new street racing franchise to get into, get your hands on The Crew.


6. Bayonetta 2

October 2014 is going to hurt gamer’s wallets badly. Like “I guess I can go without dinner this month badly.” Why? Cause there’s a ton of awesome games releasing every week of this month. Wii U owners will FINALLY get the chance to own the 2nd iteration in PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta series.

Just imagine how much more mind-blowing this game will look on the big screen as you play it in front of a crowd of PAX Prime 2014 attendees. Every trailer we’ve set our eyes upon is full of pure insanity and angel-killing action. Do yourself a favor and check out Bayonetta 2.

5. The Behemoth’s “Game 4”


Indie game developer The Behemoth have given the world of gaming some of the greatest digital titles we’ve ever played – Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theater.

They’re prepping to reveal something pretty important at PAX Prime 2014 and we’re all excited to see what it could be. All we know is that The Behemoth titled this upcoming project “Game 4” at the moment and it has something to do with monsters and an ancient civilization.


4. Alien: Isolation

SEGA is hell bent on polishing the good name of the Alien franchise after it was sullied by the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines. They’re making sure to bring the game and its nifty looking (and somewhat terrifying) Egg Pod to PAX Prime 2014.

You’ve probably watched a ton of videos surrounding this survival horror take on such an iconic move franchise. Head on down to SEGA’s booth, play the demo and make sure you walk away with a special “Survive the Demo Competition” jacket. You might as well get ready for Halloween early by scaring yourself silly with the Alien: Isolation demo.


3. Far Cry 4

Another one of Ubisoft’s playable PAX Prime 2014 demos includes Far Cry 4, one of the most anticipated game releases of November 2014. You’ll get to taste just a sample of the huge open-world version of Kyrat and it’s limitless array of missions and terrain to explore.

We have a hunch that attendees will get a chance to play some co-op missions within the game and get caught into the Far Cry 4 hype. Ubisoft Montreal is a high-quality developer who’s penchant for crafting some well-polished titles, so you know you’re going to enjoy every bit of the Far Cry 4 demo.


2. Evolve

PAX Prime 2014 is the perfect event for gamers looking to do some cooperative gameplay among a sea of fellow hardcore gamers. 2K Games’ Evolve is most definitely going to get Best of Show honors thanks to its penchant for hosting some of the most fun competitive/co-op gameplay seen today.

Will you become a Hunter and work together to kill off some massive creatures? Or will you take on the role of “The Goliath” or “The Kraken” and destroy the Hunters that are on your trail? Make up your mind quickly before you sit down to take Evolve for a spin.


1. Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS

Nintendo is going to do some special things for anyone who’s showing up for PAX Prime 2014. They’re set to show off a bunch of Wii U and 3DS titles, such as Hyrule Warriors, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Pokemon Art Academy, Azure Striker GUNVOLT etc. But we all know what game most Nintendo fans are heading down to Seattle, Washington to play – Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS.

On Friday (August 29) and Saturday (August 30), Nintendo will have playable demos of the game posted up at several nearby locations. Keep a close eye on the #SmashBash hashtag on Twitter so you’ll get the chance to play some Smash.
