Professor Oak in ‘Pokemon Sun & Moon?’ ‘Alolan Oak’ Confirmed

In a new Japanese trailer for Pokemon Sun & Moon, a man bearing a striking resemblance to the original “Pokemon professor,” Professor Oak, is shown in a quick cut scene. You can watch it above around 1:25 mark or view the screenshot below.

Is it really Professor Oak?

No. It’s his cousin, “Nariya Ookido.” Professor Oak’s name is “Yukinari Ookido,” or “Samuel” for English-speaking audiences. According to Famitsu, like his cousin, Nariya is also a Pokemon scholar… but for the Alola region.

Fans on Reddit wondered if the inclusion of a “new” Professor Oak meant other regions would be available to play in the game, specifically Kanto or Hoenn. But as of now, it’s all just conjecture.

The last time the Professor Samuel Oak appeared in a Pokemon game was Heartgold and Soulsilver.

Pokemon Sun & Moon comes out in the US on November 18. Pre-order it here.
