Johnson earns flyweight title shot
With “UFC on FX 3” in the books, the UFC flyweight division has some closure, even if a flyweight champion has yet to be determined.
On Friday night in Sunrise, Florida, flyweights Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall squared off to determine the second finalist in the flyweight finals, with Joseph Benavidez being the other finalist. The bout was a rematch after the pair’s first outing ended in a draw, and Johnson was sure to take advantage in his second professional bout at the 125 lb. mark, earning a unanimous decision victory after three competitive rounds.
Also on the card, Erick Silva continued building upon his meteoric rise, earning a submission victory over Charlie Brenneman in the evening’s co-main event, while Mike Pyle and Eddie Wineland each earned knockout wins earlier on the card.
