Just a few days following the WEC’s first Canadian card, the promotion is staying busy preparing its next card, WEC 50, in Las Vegas, Nevada this August, as a lightweight match up between Dave Jansen and Ricardo Lamas, along with a featherweight match up between Cub Swanson and Chad Mendes are in the works for August 18.
The lightweight match up was reported by MMAjunkie.com after confirming the news with reputable sources, while the 145-pound bout was reported by MMAWeekly.com
Jansen and Lamas, who will fight on the preliminary card of WEC 50, have a combined two career losses, both coming in the WEC. Jansen’s lone loss came at WEC 46 where he dropped a unanimous decision to 155-pound contender Kamal Shalorus, while Lamas lost for the first time at WEC 42 against Danny Castillo. He is currently riding a two-fight winning streak.
The more notable match up, a fight between two exciting featherweights, Mendes vs. Swanson will also likely make the preliminary action of the evening. Mendes is a perfect 7-0 with his most recent win coming via guillotine choke submission over Anthony Morrison at WEC 48. Swanson also won by guillotine choke in his last outing, which was a successful rebound following his eight second knockout loss to Jose Aldo at WEC 41.
“WEC 50: Cruz vs. Benavidez II” is set for August 18 at The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card features a bantamweight title fight between champion Dominick Cruz and top contender Joseph Benavidez. The co-main event for the evening features Urijah Faber’s debut at the 135-pound mark, as he is set to face former top contender Takeya Mizugaki.
