Three bouts have been added to the recently relocated “UFC on Versus 2” set for San Diego, California this August. The fights were made official for the preliminary card of the event by the promotion today, and the card is now complete.
The three fights added include Jacob Volkmann vs. Paul Kelly, which was originally slated for UFC 116, Thiago Tavares vs. Willamy Freire, and, lastly, Darren Elkins vs. Charles Oliveira. The three preliminary bouts join the likes of Damarques Johnson vs. Matt Riddle and Igor Pokrajac vs. James Irvin on the undercard action for the evening.
Making up the main card, Takanori Gomi returns after his loss to Kenny Florian at “UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Gomi” against Joe Stevenson in the first bout on the televised card. Also on the card, Jake Ellenberger takes on John Howard, while Mark Munoz will face top middleweight Yushin Okami. In the main event, Jon Jones will look to redeem his first loss, which was a result of disqualification due to illegal strikes, against veteran of the sport Vladimir Matyushenko.
The event, originally slated for Salt Lake City, Utah, was moved to San Diego, California, as reported by Heavy.com earlier this week. The card, which will be the UFC’s second event on the Versus Network, will take place on August 1 at the San Diego Sports Arena.
