“The Ultimate Fight 11” cast member Chris Camozzi’s victory over James Hammortree at “The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale” has earned the middleweight another opponent in the UFC, as he is set to face off against UFC rookie Dongi Yang at UFC 121.
MMAjunkie.com confirmed the match up with sources close to the fight, reporting that both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout.
Camozzi failed to make a deep run in the tournament on “The Ultimate Fighter 11”, but joined the likes of Kyle Noke and Court McGee as contestants who earned a victory at the finale, securing a spot on a future UFC card. Prior to the reality show, Camozzi compiled a record of 12-3 with nine victories coming by way of knockout or submission.
Yang, who has spent his entire career fighting in Korea and Japan, has compiled a perfect 9-0 record heading into this fight. Like Camozzi, he has yet to defeat a top competitor at middleweight, but has managed to finish all nine of his fights, leaving it out of the hands of the judges.
UFC 121 is expected to take place on October 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The card is expected to be headlined by a heavyweight bout between champion Brock Lesnar and top contender Cain Velasquez. Jake Shields, former Strikeforce middleweight champion, is expected to face Martin Kampmann in his long-awaited UFC debut on the main card as well.
