Banned from the UFC, Daley takes his talents to Strikeforce
The promotion officially announced the deal earlier today.
Daley’s contract comes less than one week after his unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal at the most recent Shark Fights event, which marked his second consecutive win following a submission (strikes) victory in Australia in July.
However, Daley’s latest triumphs come after his biggest downfall. Following the final bell of his three round contest against Josh Koscheck at UFC 113, Daley, out of frustration, sucker punched Koscheck, leading to his immediate release from the promotion. Rumors quickly began to circulate as to where Daley would end up, with Strikeforce seeming the top candidate.
The top-tier striker brings his immense punching power into the Strikeforce 170-pound division, which currently calls Nick Diaz its champion. Daley’s debut with the promotion is yet to be announced, but he will almost certainly step into the Strikeforce cage before the year is out.
“I’m looking forward to fighting for STRIKEFORCE and would really love to fight (current STRIKEFORCE welterweight champion) Nick Diaz,” Daley said. “He’s a big name and a great fighter. Diaz would bring out the best in me and would be a great test.”
