Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz walked away from his main event title bout against K.J. Noons this past Saturday with his 170-pound belt wrapped around his waist and a $50,000 check waiting for him.
MMAJunkie.com requested the fighter salaries from this past weekend’s “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II”, learning that Diaz and former lightweight champion Josh Thomson took home the biggest checks, earning nearly half of the $211,500 fighter payroll.
Like Diaz, Thomson, who was victorious in his lightweight scrap against Gesias Cavalcante, took home 50 grand. Cavalcante raked in $40,000 of his own, while Noons took merely $10,000 with him for his efforts.
New women’s champion Marloes Coenen took the belt away from Sarah Kaufman on the evening’s main card with a third round submission victory earning her $3,000, which includes a $1,000 win bonus, while the former champion will be cashing a check for $20,000 after her disappointing performance.
