UFC veterans Irvin and Alexander meet at Shark Fights 14
Light heavyweights James Irvin and Houston Alexander will meet in a rematch set for Shark Fights 14.
The news surfaced Thursday when the latter announced the news via his official Twitter account.
Alexander, whose time in the UFC started off sweet, only to end sour, last fought at Shark Fights last show, which took place in September of last year. The powerful striker put away Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou with a second round technical knockout, extending his current winning streak to two.
Irvin, meanwhile, has had no such luck. The injury prone fighter has gone 1-4-1 in his last six contests. He did earn a knockout victory last October to snap a three-fight winning streak, but followed up the win with a submission loss and a no contest.
Regardless of recent history, however, Irvin enters the rematch with a win over Alexander. The two met at “UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Lauzon” back in April of 2008, and the superman punch knockout victory earned Irvin the evenings Knockout of the Night honor.
Shark Fights 14 is set for March 11 at Lubbock, Texas’ Fair Park Coliseum and features a main event between middleweights Matt Horwich and Danillo Villefort. More announcements will likely surface in the near future, as the event grows closer and closer.
