Manhoef and Kennedy meet on March 5
A middleweight contest between hard-hitting striker Melvin Manhoef and former top contender Tim Kennedy is now official for Strikeforce’s Ohio debut.
Officials made the announcement earlier today.
Manhoef, whose five-fight winning streak between 2007 and 2008 seems like a decade ago, has struggled as of late, losing consecutive fights by stoppage. Most recently, he was submitted by Tatsuya Mizuno at DREAM.15 last July, while in his last Strikeforce contest he was brutally knocked out by Robbie Lawler last January.
Meanwhile, Kennedy looks to battle back to a title shot and a rematch with champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, who defeated him for the belt at “Strikeforce: Houston” last August. Prior to the loss, the 185 lb. threat put together a four-fight winning streak, including submission victories over Trevor Prangley, Zak Cummings, and Nick Thompson.
The middleweight contest will be featured on the main card of “Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson” on March 5 in Columbus, Ohio. The card, which will be broadcast live on Showtime, features a light heavyweight title contest between champion Rafael Cavalcante and Dan Henderson.
