Henderson vs. Emelianenko slotted for this Summer
A superfight between mixed martial arts legends Dan Henderson and Fedor Emelianenko is a possibility for July or August of 2011.
The news was delivered by Scott Coker in the post-fight press conference for “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley.”
Emelianenko is coming off a disappointing loss to Antonio Silva in the opening round of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix. The loss is his second in a row, with the other coming again Fabricio Werdum in what was the biggest upset of 2010.
Unlike the Russian superstar, Henderson has maintained his relevancy after capturing the Strikeforce light heavyweight title with a knockout victory over Rafael Cavalcante. However, he could not earn the middleweight title prior to his return to the 205 lb. division, losing to current UFC welterweight top contender Jake Shields via unanimous decision.
“The date, I would say, is probably late summer,” Coker stated following last evening’s event. “Some things are still to be negotiated.”
