Keith Jardine is now a Strikeforce fighter.
Strikeforce announced during Friday’s Strikeforce Challengers 15 broadcast on Showtime that UFC veteran Keith Jardine will replace the injured Mike Klye and face Gegard Mousasi.
The light heavyweight fight will be on the televised portion of “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” on April 9 in San Diego, Calif.
Jardine has put together a two-fight win streak since going on a five-fight skid that began in 2009. He was cut by the UFC after four of them and was defeated by Trevor Prangley in his next outing in the Texas-based Shark Fights promotion.
Riding back-to-back victories, Jardine looks to extend the win streak to three.
Mike Kyle broke his hand while preparing to face Mousasi, opening the door for Jardine to take the short notice fight against the DREAM light heavyweight champion.
Mousasi is also on a two-fight win streak since losing the Strikeforce light heavyweight title to “King Mo” Lawal in August.
His two recent wins were in the DREAM Light Heavyweight Grand Prix and earned him the championship.
Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz will defend his title against dangerous striker Paul Daley in the main event. Lightweight titleholder Gilbert Melendez also puts his belt on the line against Japanese star Tatsuya Kawajiri.
