Palhares, Ferreira meet at UFC 134
A middleweight contest between Rousimar Palhares and Alexandre Ferreira is likely for UFC 134.
MMAjunkie.com first reported the fight earlier today.
Palhares, a submission specialist, last fought at “UFC on Versus 3,” earning a leg lock submission stoppage against Dave Branch. Prior to that fight, he was defeated by Nate Marquardt in the main event of “UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares,” which snapped a three-fight winning streak.
While Palhares is looking to build on his latest victory, Ferreira is looking for redemption after being knocked out by Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 122. The bout was his UFC debut and snapped a seven-fight winning streak he was on prior to the tilt. Out of his 18 career victories, 17 of them have came via submission.
UFC 134 is set for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 27 and features a main event between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and top contender Yushin Okami. Also on the card, Forrest Griffin and Mauricio Rua will meet in a light heavyweight rematch.
