Franklin opts for shoulder surgery
Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin has elected to undergo shoulder surgery.
MMAjunkie.com reported the news earlier today.
The choice to go forward with surgery comes about following an injury which happened 10 days ago. The surgery is not serious and will take place next Tuesday.
Franklin last fought at UFC 126 against former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin last February, losing a decision to the fellow fan favorite. Prior to the loss, he brutally knocked out another former champion, putting a vicious end to the career of Chuck Liddell at UFC 115.
In his most recent match up, Franklin was expected to meet Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 133, but the Brazilian pulled out of the fight and it was not rebooked. Still, the 205 lb. fighter does anticipate a full recovery and plans to fight as soon as he is physically able.
