Welterweights looking to get back in the win column to close out 2011
A contest between two fighters looking to rebound from first round losses has been added to the line-up for UFC 141 on December 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, as Sean Pierson will meet Dong Hyun Kim in a welterweight contest.
UFC officials announced the bout earlier in the day.
Kim suffered the first loss of his career at UFC 132 against Carlos Condit. The South Korean “Stun Gun” had previously earned victories over TJ Grant, Amir Sadollhah, and Nate Diaz. While he lost to fellow judoka Karo Parisyan at UFC 94, the result was overturned and ruled a no contest when Parisyan tested positive for painkiller follows the bout.
Like Kim, Pierson is intent on bouncing back from his first loss in the Octagon as well. After earning a unanimous decision win over Matt Riddle in his UFC debut, the Canadian MMA pioneer was knocked out by Jake Ellenberger at UFC 129 in his hometown of Toronto back in April. The 35-year-old is 11-4 overall.
UFC 141 marks the debut of former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem in the UFC, as he takes on the returning Brock Lesnar.
