Bantamweights to throw down in Stockholm
A bout featuring a pair of hard-hitting bantamweights has been added to the UFC’s debut card in Sweden.
Brad Pickett and Damacio Page have agreed to meet when the UFC visits Stockholm for the first time on April 14. The promotion on Tuesday announced the fight had been added to the card, UFC on Fuel TV 2, which will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Sweden’s Alexander Gustafsson and Brazilian Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
Pickett (20-6, 0-1 UFC) returned to action for the first time in nearly a year in November with a fight against Renan Barao in his native England. But despite winning a Fight of the Night bonus, “One Punch” had to leave Birmingham with a rear naked choke loss. That fight was his long-awaited UFC debut after being forced out of a May fight against Miguel Torres with an injury. Before joining the UFC, Pickett was 3-1 in the WEC with his only loss coming against Scott Jorgensen, who turned the win into a title shot against Dominick Cruz.
Page, also a WEC veteran, will be fighting for the first time in more than a year. He made his UFC debut last March at UFC on Versus 3, but was submitted at 3:30 of the first round by guillotine choke. Amazingly, the clock time and finish method was exactly the same as his first fight against Bowles – a loss at WEC 35 two and a half years prior. Prior to his second loss to Bowles, Page suffered a guillotine choke loss to Demetrious Johnson at WEC 52. In fact, five of Page’s six losses have come by submission, and Pickett owns nearly half of his 20 career wins by tapout – including four guillotine chokes.
