All 22 fighters on weight for Saturday’s card
LAS VEGAS – All fighters for Saturday’s UFC 143 pay-per-view made weight for their fights at Friday’s official weigh-in event.
The official weigh-in event took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, site of Saturday’s Super Bowl weekend card.
Main-even welterweights Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit each came in a pound under the limit, hitting 169 pounds for their interim championship fight. The winner of their fight will be the interim champion while Georges St-Pierre recovers from surgery for a torn ACL.
Co-main event heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson each came in at 246 pounds. Werdum is returning to the UFC after a run in Strikeforce that saw him dethrone the legendary Fedor Emelianenko. He was cut after a UFC 90 loss to current heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, who was making his promotional debut.
And in the event’s most intense moment, welterweights Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce needed to be separated by UFC president Dana White after getting in each others’ faces during their staredown – provoked, in part, by a curly yellow wig Pierce wore to mock Koscheck’s hair style.
