Welterweights booked for June 22 card in New Jersey

A welterweight clash between Rick Story and Rich Attonito has been confirmed for UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida in Atlantic City, N.J., on June 22.

The UFC recently announced the fight booking, saying verbal agreements are in place for the card, which is expected to take place at the new Revel resort and casino.

Attonito, a veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter,” last competed at UFC 140 last year, losing to Jake Hecht via technical knockout. Prior to that loss, he defeated Daniel Roberts in Pittsburgh last June. Attonito now finds himself with a 3-2 record in Zuffa.

Meanwhile, Story continued to struggle on his way back into contention after losing his second straight fight. At UFC 139, he was defeated by Martin Kampmann by unanimous decision. Before that loss, he dropped a unanimous decision to Charlie Brenneman, who was a late replacement for Story’s original opponent at UFC on Versus 4, Nate Marquardt.

UFC on FX 4 will be the UFC’s first show in Atlantic City since UFC 53 in June 2005. The event will be the UFC’s seventh in Atlantic City, a city known for hosting major boxing events. The first three took place at the Trump Taj Mahal, followed by three at the Boardwalk Hall.
