UFC on Fuel TV 3 Official for May 15; Tickets On Sale March 16

Dustin Poirier vs. Chan Sung Jung headlines card

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Fairfax, Va., on May 15 for a Fuel TV-broadcast fight card.

The UFC made the event official on Thursday, announcing fights for the main card as well as a ticket on-sale date. The UFC last visited the Patriot Center in Fairfax, a Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C., for UFC Fight Night: Maynard vs. Diaz in January 2010.

The main event of UFC on Fuel TV 3 will be a featherweight contenders bout between Dustin Poirier and “The Korean Zombie,” Chang Sung Jung. According to the UFC, the winner “is expected to emerge as a challenger to the UFC 145-pound title,” which is currently held by long-reigning champion Jose Aldo.

“We’re excited to head back to the Patriot Center again with another great night of fights, including a featherweight main event pitting Dustin Poirier against ‘The Korean Zombie,’” UFC president Dana White said in a statement. “Poirier and ‘The Korean Zombie’ are two of the most exciting fighters in the UFC. This is going to be a fun fight. From top to bottom, I will deliver for the fans in Virginia.”

“We are thrilled to have UFC return to the Patriot Center,” said Barry Geisler, the arena’s general manager. “The UFC provides a unique and live sporting event experience that MMA fans will not want to miss come May 15.”

Poirier (12-1, 4-0 UFC), a student of UFC veteran Tim Credeur, has won five straight fights, including his first four in the UFC. Earlier this month, Poirier scored a Submission of the Night win over Max Holloway at UFC 143. Jung (12-3, 2-0 UFC) has won his first two fights in the UFC in devastating fashion after a rough 0-2 start to his career outside of Japan while with the WEC. His twister submission of Leonard Garcia in their rematch was a Submission of the Night winner, and he followed that up with a 7-second Knockout of the Night win over Mark Hominick in December.

In addition to the main event, the UFC made official a lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Jeremy Stephens; a middleweight bout between Tom Lawlor and Jason MacDonald; a light heavyweight bout between Thiago Silva and Igor Pokrajac; and a bantamweight bout between Yves Jabouin and D.C. native Mike Easton.

Tickets for UFC on Fuel 3 go on sale to the general public on March 16 at 10 a.m. Eastern with prices ranging from $44 to $229. In addition, UFC Fight Club members are expected to be able to purchase tickets on March 14, and UFC newsletter subscribers on March 15.
