Rousey vs. Kaufmann set for August 18
Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will defend her title against Sarah Kaufman in August.
MMAFighting.com confirmed the bout on Friday.
Rousey earned the bantamweight strap at “Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Tate” against Miesha Tata this past March. Rousey locked on an armbar to finish the fight via submission.
In five professional fights, the 25-year-old is a perfect 5-0, earning all five of those victories via first round armbar submission. Each of her first four victories came within the first minute of the fight.
Kaufman, a seven-fight Strikeforce veteran, reached the pinnacle of the bantamweight division when she defeated Takayo Hashi for the title in February of 2010. She defended the title with a vicious knockout victory against Roxanne Modafferi a few months later, but would go on to lose the title in October of 2010 to Marloes Coenen.
Since the loss, Kaufman has worked her way back into contention with three straight victories. She recently won against Alexis Davis at the same event Rousey took the title.
The title contest will take place in San Diego, California on August 18. The bantamweight championship will likely serve as the main event.
