MacDonald out of UFC 152 with training injury

UFC welterweight contender Rory MacDonald has been forced out of his UFC 152 contest against B.J. Penn.

The Canadian fighter suffered a cut in training that UFC president Dana White said required plenty of stitches and would cause the bout to be removed from the September card.

UFC 152 takes place on September 22 in Toronto, featuring a flyweight title bout between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez.

MacDonald’s match up against Penn came about when he essentially called out the former champion, stating that he would like to fight him before the future Hall-of-Famer retired permanently.

Penn immediately obliged, and the match up became the first major contest on the September card.

As of today Penn remains on the card, though no word has been made as to whether or not the promotion will simply postpone the match up to a future event.
