‘Top Gun’ Director, ‘Prometheus’ Producer Leaps to His Death

The man behind “Top Gun” has leaped to his death from an iconic bridge in San Pedro, California.

Producer/director Tony Scott, 68, jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge on Sunday afternoon like a man on a mission, reports L.A. Times:

Several witnesses told police they saw Scott get out of his Toyota Prius, which was parked on the bridge, about 12:30 p.m. Then he scaled an 8- to 10-foot fence and jumped off without any hesitation, law enforcement sources said.

Though best known for the ’80s hit Top Gun starring an in-his-prime Tom Cruise, Scott’s long resume included directing credits on the runaway-train movie Unstoppable and producing credits on Prometheus, The A-Team and TV’s The Good Wife.

His brother is Ridley Scott, who directed Prometheus.
