SYNOPSIS: Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.
WHY YOU SHOULD GIVE A DAMN: Mad Max was the vehicle that launched the career of Aussie Mel Gibson and spawned two sequels: The Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
While the two sequels didn’t quite have the rugged, jagged panache of the original, the series’ director—George Miller—is back to direct the fourth installment of the franchise, this time with Tom Hardy playing the role of Max and Charlize Theron playing his second.
I’m excited to see how George Miller, who last directed two animated features, Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two, will handle this material—which he also penned—with the obvious leap in technology since his first foray into the mythos of Mad Max.
Also, Tom Hardy can’t seem to miss these days as he’s become a premier played in the land of stars and for good reason: he can act his ass off. Theron always brings the goods as well, so let’s hope this film is more original Mad Max than the more ostentatious Thunderdome.
If anything, we’ll get to see some awesome dystopian vehicular action!
WHEN YOU CAN SEE IT: IMDB has the film releasing sometime in 2014. Filming just recently finished wrapping.
