The Pacers are waiving Swider on Friday, Tony East of SI.com reports. Swider spent the preseason with Indiana but was unable to secure a roster spot. He will now enter the 2024-25 campaign as a free agent.
The Pacers signed Swider to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Swider was impressive with the Heat's Summer League team this offseason, during which he averaged 13.5 points while shooting 49.1 percent from beyond the arc. The 25-year-old will now have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot in training camp with the Pacers, and he averaged 2.3 points across 4.8 minutes in 18 regular-season games with the Heat last season.
Swider (not injury related) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Pacers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Swider is with the NBA club but won't suit up Sunday because the team already has 15 players available. With the G League season over for the Heat's affiliate -- the Sioux Falls Skyforce -- Swider should remain with Miami moving forward, but he's unlikely to see consistent playing time.
Swider recorded zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt) in two minutes during Tuesday's 113-92 loss to Golden State. Swider suited up for the third straight game, albeit for just two minutes. While it has been an encouraging run for Swider, the fact he has played on just 14 occasions this season shouldn't be overlooked. There is no reason to be adding him, even in deeper formats.
Swider has rejoined the Heat on their road trip and will be available for Wednesday's game in Cleveland, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. With Duncan Robinson (back) joining Tyler Herro (foot), Josh Richardson (shoulder) and Kevin Love (heel) on the sidelines, Swider will serve as emergency depth for the Heat during their final matchup of a four-game road trip. Swider hasn't appeared in an NBA game since Feb. 26.
