The Colts worked out Jacobs (undisclosed) on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Works out with Colts
The Colts worked out Jacobs (undisclosed) on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jacobs was previously let go by the Rams with an injury settlement in late August, but following his workout with the Colts, it appears he's moved past the undisclosed issue. The Arkansas product appeared in 15 regular-season games with the Lions in 2023, recording 55 total tackles and eight passes defended, including three interceptions.
Let go with injury settlement
The Rams waived Jacobs (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jacobs did not suit up for the Rams' preseason game against the Chargers on Saturday. He played in 15 regular-season games with the Lions in 2023, finishing the season with a career-high 55 tackles (49 solo), eight passes defended and three interceptions. Once healthy, Jacobs will look to catch on with a team in need of depth in the secondary.
Signs, practices with Rams
The Rams officially signed Jacobs on Saturday, Nick Hamilton of SiriusXM reports. Jacobs' signing comes in the wake of Derion Kendrick's season-ending ACL tear and Darious Williams' hamstring strain. Jacobs practiced with the Rams on Saturday, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, so he appears to be clear of the hamstring injury that caused him to finish last year on injured reserve. If Williams is unable to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, Jacobs may need to step in to start.
Plans to sign with Rams
The Rams plan to sign Jacobs (hamstring), Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Jacobs racked up a career-high 55 tackles with Detroit in 2023, but he struggled in coverage and was ultimately non-tendered by the Lions back in March. Now he'll join a Rams team that just lost promising young corner Derion Kendrick for the entire upcoming year to a torn ACL.
Becoming free agent
Detroit will not tender Jacobs (hamstring), who will now become a free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Jacobs played nearly every defensive snap for the Lions in 2023 before going down with a hamstring injury in Week 15, but it now looks like he might be playing in a different uniform in 2024. He'll likely draw the interest of multiple teams as the offseason progresses.
Expected back for regular season
Head coach Dan Campbell indicated Tuesday that Jacobs (hamstring) should be ready to play at some point during the preseason, Jeff Risdon of WMAX-FM reports. Jacobs was unavailable for Detroit's postseason run after injuring his hamstring down the stretch of last season. Prior to initially getting banged up in Week 14 against Chicago, Jacobs was nearly an every-down player, albeit for a Lions defense that was much weaker against the pass than the run in 2023. While Jacobs is now set to become a restricted free agent, it sounds like Campbell expects him to stick around in 2024.
