Picks off Mayfield in Week 6
Abram finished Sunday's 51-27 loss to the Buccaneers with seven tackles (three solo) and one interception. Abram was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for a second straight game. The 2019 first-round pick took advantage of the opportunity by picking off Baker Mayfield midway through the second quarter, which led to a 10-yard touchdown from Spencer Rattler to Bub Means on the next play. Abram can be elevated for one more game, after which the Saints would have to sign him to the active roster.
Makes return
Abram (back) has returned to Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Abram's ability to get back in the game is good news for the Saints, who are dealing with multiple injuries at safety. The veteran should see considerable work in the second half, as long as he remains healthy.
Exits early
Abram (back) has left Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Abram had one tackle and a pass defended before exiting the game. His current absence is another blow to the Saints' secondary, who is also currently without Tyrann Mathieu (forearm) as well after an earlier in-game injury.
Misses cut
Abram was released by the Saints on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. After being drafted by the Raiders in 2019, Abram has spent the last three seasons in Green Bay, Seattle and New Orleans. The journeyman was looking to return to the Big Easy, but he ultimately failed to make it through final roster cuts. It remains to be seen what opportunity will arise next for the veteran safety.
Staying with New Orleans
Abram agreed to a contract with the Saints on Wednesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. In nine regular-season games with the Saints in 2023, the 2019 first-round draft pick recorded 26 tackles and one interception. By bringing back the 27-year-old, New Orleans' secondary maintains some needed depth following the offseason departures of Marcus Maye, Isaac Yiadom and Lonnie Johnson.
