Byfield scored a shorthanded goal and added two PIM in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Islanders. Byfield's goal streak is up to four games after he put away the first shorthanded goal and point of his career. His tally stretched the Kings' lead to 3-1 at 14:00 of the second period. The 22-year-old has put on a good surge in the second half of the campaign and is now at 15 goals, 38 points, 123 shots on net, 64 hits, 34 PIM and a plus-9 rating across 63 appearances.
Mittelstadt picked up an assist Saturday in a 4-0 win over Tampa Bay. In the third period, Mittelstadt set up an odd-man rush for Cole Koepke and David Pastrnak, which the former capitalized on to round out the scoring. Mittestadt possesses plenty of potential and could resurrect his game with Boston after failing to find a fit in Colorado. He had 11 goals and 23 assists in 63 games with the Avalanche before being dealt ahead of Friday's deadline.
Lankinen stopped 37 of 38 shots in Friday's 3-1 win over the Wild. Lankinen has won four of his last six outings, and this is the fifth time in that span he's allowed two or fewer goals. His shutout bid was spoiled by Brock Faber's power-play tally, but Lankinen held off the Wild's relentless attack and got just enough goal support late in the third period to claim the win. He's now 22-10-7 with a 2.52 GAA and a .906 save percentage over 39 outings this season. The 29-year-old netminder seems likely to get the nod for a challenging matchup versus the Stars on Sunday.
The Eagles and Barkley agreed to terms Tuesday on a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Barkley's new deal reportedly includes $36 million fully guaranteed at signing, plus incentives worth up to an additional $15 million, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year, Barkley's arrival in Philadelphia transformed the team's identity, resulting in a season which ultimately culminated in a Super Bowl LIX victory over Kansas City. Barkley will warrant consideration for the No. 1 overall pick in 2025 fantasy drafts, with the Eagles set to return a top-end offensive line to open holes for one of the most explosive and versatile threats from scrimmage in the league.
Barkley rushed 25 times for 57 yards and brought in six of seven targets for 40 yards in the Eagles' 40-22 win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. Playing in his first Super Bowl on his 28th birthday, Barkley filled his usual workhorse role and finished with unremarkable numbers on the ground. However, the prized offseason acquisition grinded out some tough yards throughout the night to help keep the clock running, and he was a key outlet receiver for Jalen Hurts on multiple occasions while posting a team-high number of receptions that also served as his most yet in an Eagles uniform. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year also broke Terrell Davis' 26-year-old record for most combined rushing yards in a regular season and postseason, edging the former Bronco's mark of 2,476 yards by finishing with 2,490. Barkley also became the ninth player to rush for 2,000 yards in the regular season during his first campaign with Philadelphia, and despite his relatively nondescript night Sunday, there's no disputing his addition was key to the second Super Bowl win in franchise history.
Barkley was named the 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday, Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press reports. Barkley had a remarkable first season in Philadelphia, turning 345 carries into 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, while also catching 33 of 43 targets for 278 yards and two touchdowns over 16 regular-season games. The running back became the ninth player all-time to surpass 2,000 rushing yards and he edged out the likes of Ja'Marr Chase and Derrick Henry for OPOY. Barkley and his Eagles squad will look to knock off the back-to-back champion Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Barkley rushed 15 times for 118 yards and three touchdowns while catching one of two targets for four yards in Sunday's 55-23 win over the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game. Barkley broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run on Philadelphia's first offensive play, providing an emphatic counter to Washington's 18-play opening drive, which resulted in a field goal. His next carry also went for a touchdown, as Barkley capped the second Eagles drive with a four-yard score after the passing game got them close. He was tripped up at the 1-yard line after a 22-yard run in the third quarter on a drive that was capped by Jalen Hurts' third rushing touchdown of the game, but Barkley got a third rushing score of his own on a four-yard run in the fourth quarter. Philadelphia tacked on a seventh rushing touchdown from rookie Will Shipley down the stretch after the game was well in hand. Barkley's dream first season in Philadelphia -- both in terms of personal and team accomplishments -- will culminate in a trip to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Feb. 9.
Barkley carried the ball 26 times for 205 yards and two touchdowns while catching all four of his targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 28-22 divisional-round win over the Rams. Most of his yardage came on two long touchdowns, a 62-yard dash late in the first quarter and a 78-yard score that put the game away in the fourth. Between the regular season and the playoffs, Barkley has 2,329 rushing yards through 18 appearances, leaving him 147 short of Terrell Davis' all-time NFL record. As the focal point of the Philly offense, Barkley will take aim at that mark while trying to help his team reach the Super Bowl next Sunday against the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game.
Barkley carried the ball 25 times for 119 yards and caught both his targets for four yards in Sunday's 22-10 wild-card round win over the Packers. The star running back could have produced even bigger numbers, but on his final tote of the day he elected to slide with nothing but open field in front of him to run out the clock, settling for a 17-yard gain rather than a potential 76-yard touchdown. It was still Barkley's first 100-yard playoff game in three tries after he managed a total of 114 yards on 18 carries over two postseason contests with the Giants. Barkley now has 2,124 rushing yards on the year between the regular season and the playoffs, the fifth-highest total of all time but still a fair distance behind Terrell Davis' NFL record of 2,476, set in 1998. Another big performance for Barkley, and another Philly win, in the divisional round could put that mark within reach.
