Final Score
Eagles 20
Packers 53
The Green Bay Packers completely dominated the Philadelphia Eagles 53-20 Sunday afternoon.
Here’s how it happened.
Packers Get Big Lead in First Half
After a strong game last week, Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez is struggling in Green Bay as the Packers have opened up a 24-3 lead early in the second quarter.
Mason Crosby put Green Bay on the scoreboard when he his a 27-yard field goal on the Packers’ opening drive. Then, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers hit Davante Adams for a six-yard touchdown pass.
After that, Green Bay’s Micah Hyde returned a Philadelphia punt 75 yards for a touchdown to extend Green Bay’s lead to 17-0.
Philadelphia finally scored when Cody Parkey hit a 33-yard field goal at the beginning of the second quarter, but Green bay responded when Rodgers hit Jordy Nelson for a 27-yard touchdown less than three minutes later.
Lacy Extends Packers Lead Right Before Halftime
After Green Bay built a big lead early in the game, Packers running back Eddie Lacy (pictured above) capped off a 10-play, 80-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run with two minutes left in the first half. Green Bay missed the PAT and Philadelphia followed by hitting a field goal as time expired in the first half to give Green Bay a 30-6 lead at halftime.
Rodgers Breaks Record
In the first half of Sunday’s game, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers (pictured above) broke Tom Brady’s record for most passing attempts at home without throwing an interception. Brady’s record was 288 straight passes without an interception, as he hasn’t thrown one at home since Week 12 of the 2012 season.
Packers Continue Rout
Green Bay has continued its rout over Philadelphia with a strong second half. Among other big plays, Green Bay defensive end Julius Peppers returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter (vine above).
Lacy Makes Amazing Run
Eddie Lacy added another touchdown for Green Bay when he broke through several tackles on his way to the end zone (vine above).
Preview
Neither the Green Bay Packers nor the Philadelphia Eagles has beaten more than one team that currently has a winning record. That will change for one of these teams Sunday when the Eagles (7-2) and the Packers (6-3) play in one of the weekend’s marquee games Sunday afternoon.
Philadelphia quarterback Mark Sanchez led the Eagles to wins in Houston (after Foles was hurt) and last week against Carolina. The Jets’ 2009 first-round pick — and first-year Eagles backup — has thrown four touchdowns and two interceptions with 534 passing yards and a 97.7 passer rating.
Sanchez brings Philadelphia’s fifth-ranked passing offense into Green Bay to face the NFL’s ninth-ranked passing defense.
