Former NHL player Jim Dowd has been accused of assaulting a high school hockey player, according to NBC. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

1. Dowd is a Former NHL Player

Dowd played in the NHL from 1991-2008. He was drafted by the Devils and finished his career with the Flyers. He also played for the Canucks, Islanders, Flames, Oilers, Wild, Canadiens, Blackhawks and Avalanche.

He was with the Devils in 1995 when they won the Stanley Cup.


2. Dowd Is a High School Coach

Dowd coaches the varsity hockey team at Point Pleasant Beach High School, a public school in New Jersey. App.com reports he has since been temporarily relieved of his duties. He was hired in April 2014, according to App.com.


3. Dowd Was Accused of Kicking the Player

The assault accusation is based on Dowd kicking a 16-year-old player in the back last Wednesday during a game. The charges were filed on Monday.


4. A Parent Filed the Charges
