DraftKings Fantasy Golf: Win $10K in a Byron Nelson PGA Contest

Heavy’s partners at DraftKings are hosting a low buy-in PGA Tour fantasy contest this week

Sign up for the PGA $100K Birdie contest for a chance to win $10,000.

The PGA $100K Birdie guarantees a total of $100,000 to be paid out to over 7,800 teams gets underway when the PGA pros tee off at the AT&T Byron Nelson on Thursday morning.

The contest buy-in is $3 for current members. But if you’re new to DraftKings and just made your first account deposit, you will receive a $3 voucher which can be redeemed to play in the contest for free. The voucher expires a year from when it was issued.

As a first-time user with DraftKings, when you sign up and are prompted for a DraftKings promo code, use “HEAVY.”

The top prize is $10,000, second is $7,500 and third $5,000. The $100K Birdie game for the AT&T Byron Nelson gets started at 8 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, May 28, so lineups need to be set by then.

If you miss the deadline for this week’s Birdie contest, it’s OK. It is a weekly contest which begins every Thursday with the first round of each tournament. So you can can sign up for next week’s.

The rules are simple: With a fixed salary cap of $50,000, choose 6 golfers you feel have the best chance to do well at TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas. The better your selected players do, the better your fantasy team does. The idea is to not only pick golfers who can make the birdies and pars, but play the entire 4 rounds. Picking a pro who misses the cut isn’t going to help.

Masters winner and tournament favorite Jordan Spieth costs the most at $13,000. That’ll leave a dent in your $50K salary cap. But I splurged and was able to find moderately-priced bargains who have been playing well.

I tried all sorts of combinations with the 3 most expensive players Spieth, Dustin Johnson ($12,700) and Jason Day ($11,200), but found this lineup with Spieth headlining most appealing.

There is a considerable drop-off after the top tier of players – the 3 listed above, Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, among others – so it’s imperative you find some hidden gems. I think this group of 6 has serious scoring potential.

Here is my lineup below:
