Angie Ball is the wife of two-time Masters champion, Bubba Watson.
Here’s everything you need to know about the woman behind one of the most entertaining and enigmatic players on TOUR:
1. She Met Bubba at the University of Georgia
While Bubba was playing Division I Golf at the University of Georgia, Angie had just graduated after playing on the women’s basketball team at Georgia. During Bubba’s senior year on the team in 2001, he was barely playing and extremely frustrated with his head coach.
He ended up meeting Angie during a pickup game of basketball at UGA’s student center while playing with Angie’s former teammates. Angie told OnlineAthens.com:
My knee was in a cast at the time and I was just over shooting free throws or something. One of the guys in the game tried to save a ball from going out of bounds and he knocked me over and my teammates all came over to see if I was OK and helped me up since my leg was in a cast.
We all had a chuckle about it and were laughing that I fell and here’s Bubba in the middle of all these girls laughing about it. I’m like, ‘I don’t know you, but you’re laughing at me, so I think I need to know who you are,’ so that was the first time we met.”
2. She Played in the WNBA
After her standout years at UGA, Angie played professionally in Italy and represented Team Canada at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She was signed by the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting in 2001, playing one season before leg injuries ultimately brought her career to an end.
“Along with making it to the 1999 NCAA Final Four, my proudest accomplishment in my basketball career was making it to the WNBA,” she says.
3. She Is Unable to Conceive a Child
On Angie and Bubba’s first date, she told him she would not be able to conceive a child for medical reasons. It didn’t deter Bubba from dating and marrying her, and the couple have adopted two children: Son Caleb (adopted in 2012) and daughter Dakota (adopted 2014).
4. She’s From Toronto
Angie grew up in an extremely religious household in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Both Bubba and Angie are very religious and they continue to live by that on and off the golf course.
5. She’s Taller Than Bubba
The pro basketball player stands at 6-foot-4, and inch taller than her husband, who is considered tall amongst other players on the TOUR. Bubba is also a year-and-a-half younger than Angie, who was born on June 11, 1977.
