Heavy’s partners at DraftKings are hosting a free PGA Tour fantasy contest this week as tune-up for the U.S. Open, which is just around the corner.
Sign up for the PGA $1,000 Free Millionaire Maker Warm-Up contest right here.
The Free Golf Millionaire Maker Warm-Up guarantees a total of $1,000 to be paid out to 405 entered teams and begins when the PGA pros tee off at the FedEx St. Jude Classic on Thursday morning, June 11.
As a first-time user, when you sign up and are prompted for a DraftKings promo code, use “HEAVY.”
The top prize is $50, second is $35 and third $25. The Millioniare Maker Warm-Up gets started at 6 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, June 11, so lineups need to be set by then.
The rules are simple: With a fixed salary cap of $50,000, choose 6 golfers you feel have the best chance to do well at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. The better your selected players do, the better your fantasy team does. The idea is to not only pick golfers who can make the birdies and pars, but play the entire 4 rounds. Picking a pro who misses the cut isn’t going to help.
Editor’s note: If you’re interested in making more money with this weekend’s PGA event, sign up for DraftKings’ $80K Birdie contest. The contest buy-in is $3 for current members. But if you’re new to DraftKings and just made your first account deposit, you will receive a $3 voucher which can be redeemed to play in the contest for free. First prize is $5,000, second prize is $3,000 and third $2,000. The deadline to register is 6 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, June 11.
The field for the St. Jude isn’t deep with big names, but there are a few. Dustin Johnson ($13,000) and Phil Mickelson ($12,000) are the most expensive, but I kept both of them off my roster. Instead I opted for more under-the-radar players. Slightly cheaper (my priciest pick is Billy Horschel at $11.5K) and lesser-known (Russell Knox, anyone?). After all, it’s a free contest so I don’t mind going off the grid a bit to fill my lineup.
And I grabbed 2 potential steals in Jeff Overton ($6,100) and Greg Chalmers ($5,900). Overton is averaging 65 fantasy points over his last 3 tournaments, Chalmers 75.5 over his past 2. That’s a lot of points for the bargain prices.
Here is my lineup below:
