As soon as Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin crossed the finish line of the men’s 100m final at the 2015 IAAF World Championships, fans were clamoring for any kind of encore.
Just four days later, they’ll get it.
The 100 played out like the last scene from a movie. Gatlin, the villain who has twice been suspended for doping, got off to a fast start but, seemingly out of nowhere, suffered a very slight stumble down the stretch. That was just enough for Bolt, the charismatic hero who has long been the best in the world but has struggled with injuries in 2015, to secure his ninth World Championship gold by a margin of 0.01 seconds:
Now it’s time for Bolt vs. Gatlin II: The 200.
Bolt, who has won the 200 at the last five major international competitions (three World Championships, two Olympics), is the world-record holder and favorite. However, Gatlin’s seasonal best of 19.57 is the best in the world, so this figures to be another neck-and-neck thriller.
